Game Update v1.73 [September 2024]

HI, I created a thread about this issue after the last update, they are working on it and will look to fix it at the next companion app update. There are 3 routes missing the two you mention and triple loops on the London map, on my companion app.
Thanks John

I don´t think that the rider level should disappear when receiving a ride on. Also the progress bar disappear, but it has always been that way. Never understood this. :man_shrugging:

The rider level icon could also be revised or should it have these two bright brackets on the side?

Two issues heads up display of climb graph is distracting and not needed or wanted by this user. How do I turn that off. Second, colored painted roads in some sections, again distracting, how do I turn that off. An elevation graphic attached to route description would be most helpful.

I rode with PP Maria yesterday and noticed that the new Pop-up elevation display is still showing the wrong elevation at intersections.

I was with PP Maria riding tic-toc and was about to leave the desert towards Sequoia circle, but it showed the elevation of titans grove.

You can hide everything by turning off the HUD completely, no option for just hiding the climb display.

You can’t, this is for the 10 years of Zwift celebration. I imagine they will return to normal in a few months. Get used to it.

I am on the other side - how can I let the new elevation display turned on all the time? :joy: It is quite useful during a race.

That’s oversimplified to the point of being wrong. It depends on the grade (for one thing). Wkg is a decent metric for comparison on climbs, because aerodynamics doesn’t matter as much at lower speeds.
On level ground or especially on descents, speed, and so aerodynamic drag, is more important than weight; a shorter, heavy rider will have a higher ballistic coefficient and therefore go faster at the same wkg. That’s if you ignore drafting, of course.
All that being said, I much prefer seeing events listed with wkg ranges. Speed depends very strongly on the route, particularly on the grade

no, a steep climb only closes the gap as far as WKG goes. a light rider still has to do more as far as watts per kilo goes. raw watts is a different story, but she’s dead right

I comment as one of the most experienced zwifters and leaders with 241,000 km done so far.

I disagree with you. Speed is speed. I advertise my events as an event average of say 29-32 kmh.

When I review the data for all riders after event there is a considerable difference in wattages per kg … that important latter variable.

Anyhow, ride on :blush::biking_man:

She is right and you are also right in some ways.

W/kg in the steep long climbs really matters, but to a point. I’ve still dropped 39kg riders doing slightly more w/kg but with less outright watts. I’m 59kg for reference, so also light.

I could be wrong though, only 150 ADZ laps done so far and about 70,000km.

Hi,

I’m on Apple ATV 4k and I like the update: the in-game graphics look more …what’s the word: mature.

But that elevation thing has to go (turn off function).

And drafting ratio would be nice as a field in adjustable hud.

Ride on.

Anyone can do (more than) that on the descent. Show me that you can do 29-32 kmh up the Alpe.

That’s an extreme example of my point. More relatable (since a lot of events don’t involve the Alpe) averaging 29-32 kmh is easier in the desert than it is say, through Titans Grove. Otoh, 2.7 wkg is about the same anywhere. Sure, there’s a ballistic coefficient effect, but there’s also drafting. Smaller riders get more draft benefit, or at least they do irl.

I said “about the same”, because a given wkg is a bit harder while climbing on my wheel on trainer. I call it the “heavy trainer” effect. Might be a non linear calibration thing – higher Crr due shear, or tangential tire deformation. Or maybe it’s just tire slippage.

What have you done to erg?

I did my usual Saturday z2 ride yesterday. I do it in erg mode so i can watch tv at the same time. Prior to the lastbupdate the erg mode would keep me solid at 245w. Yesterday, over the 5h i averaged 238w.
Even whilst doing the session it was noticabe that if my cadence wasn’t robotic in repeatability the power demand / ouput would drop. There is nothing in the release notes to say erg has changed but it is a major “update” downgrade. What have you changed to erg mode?

I don’t think it should look like this?! :man_shrugging:

Hey! Can you connect your Apple Watch (serie 9 or 10) with Zwift sinds the latest update?

Thanks & kind regards!

Tine

What is your setup? Do you have a trainer that uses power smoothing? Because there’s no way you will ever stick exactly to a wattage target (even if you were a pro) but I take your point about an average over several hours.

So I wonder if your trainer’s power smoothing has coincidentally been switched off.

I give up - the new HUD looks like it has an option to display mileage completed or % completed. How does this get toggled on/off? Thank you!

There is no toggle. I suspect you’re being misled by the confusing distance icon that looks remarkably like a percentage symbol. It shows distance completed, either km or miles based on your settings.

Caution on complaining about ERG mode, the Spanish inquisition will happen soon. Be prepared to provide multiple data sources, graphs, exports of your workout, heart rates, etc and be told you are imagining things.

I did a 5x8min workout yesterday with 60-65rpm cadence (one of the old Zwift Academy strength workouts) and didn’t notice anything unusual.

I had the usual higher resistance downhill, easier resistance uphill (my heart rate would reduce on the uphill parts as well) so nothing has changed in that respect. Like you I kept my cadence absolutely on target the whole time, erg mode was turned on (by default). I don’t use power smoothing on my kickr bike.

I’m using Kickr Bike V1 over ANT+ connection on MacOS. What’s different on your setup?
