With the latest update, I’ve lost the accelerating XP icon. Previously, it was showing as being available until lvl 97. What’s the change that’s been implemented?
Another vote for the extremely annoying auto steering back into the middle lane. Really frustrating. I thought it was a feature honestly which I would like to turn off.
Surely it should only do it when there is someone to follow, although I’d like to be able to just toggle it on and off (perhaps with a long press of one of the play buttons?)
I’m kinda on the fence regarding the auto-steering back to center. Part of me thinks that if you opt to employ a steering device, you’re opting into taking an active role of placing yourself where you want in the lane. So, part of me thinks that there should be no set-it-and-forget-it – you should have to take action to put keep yourself elsewhere than where the rest of the non-steering community is sitting (which tends to be center).
basic question probably.Since 1.69 I now have the riders nearby/behind me at the bottom of the main screen , as well as on the right. (iOS iPad). Can I turn this off and just have nearby riders on the right like it used to be?
Agreed. The “optimized auto steering” is garbage. I was on a Climb Portal ride, with no one near me, and the auto steer kept positioning me to the middle of the road when I was trying to take a turn on the inside. WTF is the point of having steering when Zwift decides where I should ride. Please give us the option to turn it off.
Hi there, welcome to Forums. Juan here from Zwift. I appreciate you taking ownership of this space to share your feedback.
I’d like to share with you this thread of the release notes of the most recent game update. In this thread, our developers pay special attention to receiving your comments.
Ride On.
Not a fan of the current steering algorithm. If I’ve chosen to have a steering device, let me use the steering device for better or worse. I can choose to turn the steering off easily enough. Absolutely adjust it to allow those without steering to get into the draft of steerers in those outer lanes. But do it by moving the non-steerer behind rather than moving the steerer in front.
Is it really the case that if you have steering, you can’t actively stop yourself from being moved into the center?
Not sure, the reason I don’t use steering is I feel like I have to keep fiddling with it the whole time the first few times I used it so I found it more of a pain than value-add for my non-racing rides - for the most part I just want to pedal and only in specific instances steer rather than spend the whole ride steering. I haven’t tried it with the new experience yet, so can’t really say how bad or good it is, but it at least sounds like I would be more likely to try to use steering again with this model.
I am one of a number of users who have already commented on that thread.
Correct, after 10 seconds of no steering input you will be moved to the centre of the lane.
Super useful. This happened to me just today when my HR strap disconnected while I was in pen and I could reconnect 1 minute after race start without loosing the group.
The auto-steering-to-the-center line bug is back! This happened to me today in a race. Nobody was around me on the long Epic KOM and I rode the “ideal” line. Every 5-10 seconds, the avatar would steer to the middle (longer line). Why? It was reported and fixed earlier as a bug. Why is it feature now? It is also seen in Eric/ZwiftInsider video on the auto steering changes.
I’m not too fussed about it. Would just like to understand the change in the release notes…
I think it would make more sense to hold [B] to brake and release to stop braking.
Better overall I think would be to add a braking option to the game menu in Companion. That already has “hold to engage” behaviour for things like the U-turn (IIRC) and for ending an activity.
That way it’s available to everyone regardless of platform.
Of course IRL, we always have to fiddle with the annoyance of steering. Otherwise, it would be a very short ride.
Depends where you live. Australia has some long straight roads; the Eyre Highway runs 90 miles without a bend in one part, apparently.
The auto-steering is terrible after the update. I don’t have "video"of the issue.
If anyone at Zwift was an actual rider, they could have anticipated this issue like I did after I read about the update before my first ride with it. Get off your asses Zwift and put yourselves in the position of your customers.
I noticed the auto-steering issue just riding up the Peyresourde climb portal yesterday. Kept moving me off the line I’d chosen and back towards the centre line all the time.
It was annoying. Didn’t seem to be anything to do with draft because there weren’t any riders around me for the most part. I was riding up a 9% climb so drafting effects would be small enough not to be something I care much about, but I do want to stay on the line I’ve chosen.
Some thoughts on the changed steering behavior:
-
In general: “Steering” is the wrong word. There is no real steering. It is more a function to change lanes and still follow the road regardless of curves.
-
I notice the same bug (?) as some other users have noticed: My avatar automatically rides to the center of the road when I do not steer for 20 seconds. I really hope this is a bug and it will be fixed.
- To be honest: Why has this been implemented? It is easy to notice that you are on the left/right side and cannot go further. And there is absolutely no risk in steering too far left/right. This information is irrelevant. So what is the purpose of this visual effect?
To me this appears useless and visually annoying. How can I turn this off?
