Game Update v 1.97 [September 2025]

Is this what you both saw? Want to confirm before I have the team look into it. Ignore the distance, I did a couple of u-turns to get back to the same spot, but this is what I saw as the route approached 4.0km

Where I saw it was going up the “Dirty Sorpresa Climb”.
The route goes to the sprint, the climb look ahead continuing the climb past the waterfall.

No, it showed some small climb instead of the flat to come. Wish I’d taken a screenshot. Dan describes what I saw.

On this note, I also rode Beach Island Loop this morning as well with the BMTR group ride. Not sure at what km mark it was, but the look ahead climb feature was showing we would be climbing up into the volcano on the CCW route instead of heading toward the Sorpressa. Obviously the Beach route doesn’t go that direction.

Since we’re mentioning BIL, I just did it as the Route of the Week. From the off in Downtown it was showing me the KoM for The Grade. Not use why, it’s the other side of the island and nowhere near this route.

Same for me as well.

I concur strongly! This constant effect is as annoying to me as it is to others riding around me. I would implore developers to give us the option to turn this effect off on the aero lightening socks. They provide sufficient advantage for those that have earned them to keep using them, but it’s a close cut decision whether to ditch them for no other reason than this annoying effect.

The aero socks didn’t bug me seeing them for the first time last night… for myself.
HOWEVER… When there was two, three? Four of us together with them? Its visually very distracting.

In a year’s time when literally everyone has them unlocked, it’s going to look ridiculous, and the amount of overlap will make the bottom of the screen near completely white due to character overlap in PD, which is what made it look its worst last night for me.

I don’t think the effect is visually poor persay or annoying [for the user using them], however, it’s definitely annoying seeing OTHERS with it. My issue is even if the opacity was dropped down to even like 10% to make it barely visible, once they overlap it becomes extremely bright and turns into a mess in a group.

Proposed alternative:

Aero sock effect enables ONLY when someone is solo attacking.
Trigger as simple as “not in draft” and “above tempo” should be a good start.

This means we won’t see them as people are doing their Z2 workouts on Tempus 24/7/365, and they won’t be a visual mess on group rides.

Hi everyone. Please update at your earliest convenience.

Not new to 1.97 btw

yeah, i agree.. when i first saw it from behind, i was wondering what on earth!!!??? so i had to look at rider side on to see what this ugly mist was from behind.

Can we petition to have the visuals just removed and turned off completely?
Please just make them how they were.

We finally have an actual in-game performance benefit and then it’s ruined with a bad visual.

I swapped to normal socks just today because it looks so bad.

aero lightning sock visuals are an eye sore. can they just go back to how they were?

even 45kph is too slow i think. that’s a normalish speed for constance on tempus

just remove it

Can we please please have COROS integration on Zwift, it’s crazy we don’t!

Agreed!! Enough with the gamified graphics.

Michael,

Rather than increase the speed to something some of us will never be able to do (except coming down steep hills), might it be based on a valued tired to our FTP. So if we exceed the speed we would have riding tempus fugit at our max ftp, they show.

This would make it much more useful to the rider as well.

Either give us the option to disable the visuals (fire and lightning socks) - you can disable road feel so why cant graphic effects like that be disabled? Or just turn them off altogether for the lightning socks - it’s a subpar experience.

If you’re going to stick us with those graphics, at least set the threshold to a higher value, had a rider on his coffee break with Coco showing the graphics.

I thought about that - I know many riders who would never hit 45kph or even 40kph, and for some, although they ride a lot, even 35kph could be a stretch to achieve. I’m about to unlock these within the next ride an hour from now, but I have preliminary thoughts.

I think the intent of the visual effect here was to show when the Aero Lightning Socks will offer aerodynamic benefit, which is why the 25kph part makes sense to me because that is roughly the speed in real life where aerodynamic gains tend to begin to improve power to speed ratio. How about a transient effect of this for maybe 5-10 seconds upon entering that zone? It could fade on, whoooosh, and fade out. There could be a decay constant for hysteresis (if you’re bouncing in and out of the zone), which would make this only apply if you go out of the range for a certain duration and then re-enable.

I did 175km over two rides, mostly with Maria today in blobs of 150-180 riders and haven’t noticed this effect. It could be that nobody had the socks on.

I’ll know more what to think about it after I ride with the socks for a bit. My thinking is based upon reading some of the comments above.
