I just recently purchased a new Wahoo Click and Cog smart trainer. I’ve been riding normal routes with it to get used to it. I now want to complete and FTP test using the new trainer. I normally use gears 11 to 13 when riding routes. When the trainer starts, it defaults to gear number 8. When completing the test, should I use the default gear 8 or use a gear which I typically use. I just want to get an accurate FTP before starting the “Build Me Up” training program. Thanks.
Are you doing a ramp test or a 20 minute test?
The Build me Up training plan includes an FTP ramp test as one of the first workouts, so you don’t really need to do one before starting that training plan.
And if I remember correctly it wants you to do a 20 minute test at the end, which is nuts.
Use the same test protocol or don’t bother.
If using ERG mode to control resistance then it doesn’t matter what virtual gear you are in. If not using ERG then you need to be good at pacing and riding at your FTP for extended periods of time. It’s not something that comes easy.
