FTP issues after Ramp Test

Hi

thought I would do a Ramp test as havent doen one for a while and my score has not changed ( from 233) despite hiting new power records for various time periods. So did the test and got a new score of 256 - the new score shows on my in game profile - but on my feed my FTP has gone down from 233 to 210 - while my zftp has substanitally increased to 296. Zwift power now alos showing 210 - any ideas what is going on I thought ftp should be 75% of best 1 minute ( 340 watts) which would make sense with the 256.

What you have described is roughly what is expected. However I think you need to check your feed again to see if you have your zFTP and zMAP mixed up in all this.

Doing a ramp test will generally do the following:

It will give you an in game FTP of 75% of your final (or best) 1 minute power. It did that correctly to give you 256w.

That last 1 minute power and FTP figure has little or no direct correlation to zFTP or ZMAP (see below) and doesn’t appear in your feed.

To arrive at an improved FTP (through a ramp test) you almost always produce an improved 5 minute pb from the last 5 minutes of the test. This 5 minute pb effort (which you can see under the 5 minute effort details in your feed under Peak Power) normally bring about three changes:

zFTP very often reduces due to the short term power improvement. This is your new figure of 210.

zMAP (based around 4-6 minute effort) generally improves. This is your new 296 figure.

ZRS seed score is based on 5 minute pb improvement and has moved you up from around 190 to 249. This is visible on ZwiftPower, feed and ZCA and on your in game profile.

I would say your FTP ramp test has delivered everything I would expect it to.

HI Ian - thanks for getting back to me - definately not confused my zFTP(210) and y Zmap (296) . Not sure I quite understand why short term power negativly impacts zFTP - but look slike it must . Guess I’ll need to do a 20 min effort to balance my curve as it were - have tended to be doing longer rides with sprints efforts recently

That is one of the assumptions built into zFTP, and it often differs significantly from FTP, which doesn’t matter very much since zFTP is only used for racing categorization. It’s unfortunate that they put the letters “FTP” in zFTP since it isn’t your FTP and may never match closely.

While zFTP doesn’t necessarily equal FTP, I still can’t see how you’re being given a calculated zFTP of 3w/kg with the profile metrics that were posted above.

Based on zFTP 210 and zMAP 296 and the PRs shared above, here’s what I get

It’s a zmap of 3 not a zftp
