Between km 18 and km 20 I realized I was no longer on the route I selected (Tour Fever - Double Espresso). I did not (to my knowledge) use the Zwift companion app to select a turn (when on a route I specifically avoid that). Around that time Zwift did splash the You met your Weekly Goal (Time) on screen, but I’ve not had any issue with that appearing and causing a route to stop previously. Has anyone else experienced something like this?
I did just write to support directly - but wondering if others may have encountered this.
FWIW - I did complete successfully Tour Fever La Boucle earlier this morning, ended that and then started the Double Espresso route.
No steering device.
Level 41 and this has not happened before.
Internet and wifi seem stable. Had streaming audio going (as usual) to provide music with no drop outs.
Companion and mag unit are wifi connected - no drop outs there either.
Zwift running on Laptop - which is connected to my router via ethernet (as it always is when I’m Zwifting).
Dropouts or Internet problems will not cause that.
It can happen when late-joining an event but that would not happen in a free ride or workout or race.
Sweat on the Companion app buttons can do it.
Not sure if any of that is relevant. If you want Zwift to look into it, contact support and ask them to review your game logs.
Paul appreciate your reply
Got a reply from Support - this is what they said
“I took a look at your account and found that your speed sensor has brief but continuous Bluetooth disconnections. This prevents the avatar from moving as expected in the game. The usual cause for Bluetooth dropouts is wireless signal interference.”
I had not experienced this previously but my laptop did have a Dell update have to rollback this morning due issues it flagged - not sure if that contributed. That said - it happened once (obviously that was one time too many) - have to see if this recurs.
They pointed me to this article - https:// support. zwift. com/en_us/ble-vs-ant-interference-troubleshooting-tips-ryUhOTnzH
This doesn’t make sense to me as a reason for going off route but OK I guess…?
The other usual cause of a speed sensor dropping out is a weak battery.
The typical symptom of a connection problem with a speed sensor is loss of power, avatar slows down or stops.
I asked them to take a second look at your question. I’m curious if they offer another explanation.
In any case, if they saw dropouts, I expect that part is real and can cause problems, I just don’t think the navigation problem is the likely result of that. Can you tell me more about the laptop? Like run the System Information app and post a screenshot of what you see there, or look for a sticker on the bottom of it with a model ID and I can look up the specs based on that. It is not at all unusual to have poor Bluetooth performance in PC laptops. If that’s what you’re dealing with, a typical solution is to disable the laptop’s Bluetooth adapter and install a well known USB dongle such as the TP-Link UB500: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09DMP6T22
The chipset in that product is one that is very widely used by people running Zwift on a PC.
Obviously if you have a bad battery in the speed sensor, that’s not a problem with your Bluetooth adapter. Charging or replacing that battery is probably troubleshooting step #1.
