Drop shop: Bikes and wheels too cheap?

For me it’s just the time inflation.

For the same top of the line bike previously in the Drop Shop, now takes several more weeks for the daily rider, with no explanation.

For the casual user, that’s potentially another month of riding.
At some point, not that I think anyone has the knowledge to know this, but it will make those users no longer care, or worst case, leave because things are becoming unobtainable.

Or it will force them to go and use bots (while Zwift is offline) to farm drops, ie, they’ll leave Zwift running for 5 hours with a bot running, then stop and delete the ride but keep the earned drops.

Because the bikes are now really expensive (million drops or more).

Look at what happened with Big Spin, people were farming drops on the Stoneway Sprint by teleporting to that one guy that was always parked there. Because they needed drops for bike upgrades or to buy new desirable bikes.

We could see if they are too expensive or not expensive enough quite easily, just make all the desirable bikes 5-10 million drops each with upgrade prices to match and see what users think (or do) about it.

If they disengage with buying bikes or wheels, then tyres will need to be the next new thing to separate people from their drops. If they don’t buy tyres frequently enough they get punctures in races for instance… Or they have one tyre option that never gets punctures but is really, really slow. Hope that will never happen.

To purchase a bike at 1.8 million compared to a 1 million (or 750,000 for the early purchase), I think that would be more like six extra months. And how long would it take for a “casual rider” to update to level 5? It just seems a bit ridiculous.

On Rouvy, I signed up for the Vuelta (all 20 stages) and got basically a halo bike or the fastest in the game. It felt awesome, with no extra corrections to make a mediocre frame into an actual race frame. I will get some answers soon to compare a slower bike at level 5 versus a level 0 Cervelo Lupine.

Well to be fair that might be too far to the extreme in the other direction lol.

It’s worth noting, what was a big deal was how good and cheap the old Canyon Aeroad 2021 was and how soon you could get it and it being affordable AND it holding up pretty well until end of last year…

It’s (or was?) 532,500 :sweat_droplets: bike
It should be noted that its replacement is 1,100,000 :sweat_droplets:

Kind of once again just proof how out of control things have become.

Real world comparison; the 2021 IRL price was $4k-$9k
The 2024 IRL price was $5k-$11k

Yes, a slight increase in price to keep up with inflation… but far from double.
CPI Inflation calculator has $9k in 2021 $11.5k in today’s buying power, so that’s an accurate statement.

Is it absurd it’s a 28% price increase? Yes.. it is.
But the :droplet: shop inflation for comparison is 106%…

take your pick.

I’m no economist, but I can say with confidence that 106% inflation in the real world over a 5 year period, would be unsurprisingly, catastrophic.

It would be nice to see the new Factor One in the drop shop, might give the SL8/9’s a run for their money :person_biking: :star_struck:

The thing about Inflation is that as prices increase, so does income. The rate of accumulation of Drops should be higher now than when the 2021 Aeroad was introduced.

I think the rate of drops earning is okay.

And remember, we had a period of so many people doing teleport and repeats of the stoneway sprint, so that would have helped earning of drops enough.

Maybe coming?

Thanks Paul, Fingers crossed :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:

In one of the other topics here a few users are already disengaged after level 100 because the rest of the levels take too long. I suppose they aren’t using “creative methods” to level up like some folks I’ve seen.

I have about 23.5m drops, so the two new halo bikes will be unlocked but not purchased. As for the Cannondale R4000, I’ve left it alone - not upgrading it anymore. The upgrades are too costly and it’s no use for the rides I do.

I’ve got 11 and change (still waiting on Support to credit me my 50k level up bonus) and slowly chipping away at the Tron after getting my SP74 to level 5. TBD if I’ll bother with the Canyon halo. Have zero of their bikes upgraded so it’ll have to be a heck of a bike to get me to work on it.

I have unlocked the Canyon already - but likewise only going to buy it if the bike is useful.
