Direct Watt Control

I am a 5 year user (nearly 80000km) and “ruined” a SB20 in the process, now sitting on a Zwift Ride.

There is just one little thing I always wanted and have hoped for: A simple and easy way to ride and adjust the Watts. YES I know there are ways and workarounds to do that. But I would just like to go for a freeride, no setting up a workout. JUST ride and set 200Watts. If I am triggerhappy then ramp up or if I am cooked go easier.
It is a sort of ERG but simpler. I do not understand why something as simple as that is not programmable. Would be nice to just set up the Gearing switches of the Zwift Ride to ramp up or go down 10Watts per press. Sometimes the simple things are too simple to have.

Just make a ON/OFF switch beside the trainer difficulty and call it “Watt Control” and I would be happy.

So just like Cruise Control on Trainingpeaks Virtual?

Would be nice.

It certainly could be done if enough people wanted it. That may not materialize so using level mode on a cycling computer or in your trainer manufacturer’s app is probably simplest.

Yeah thats one of the workarounds.
1.Wahoo app for the Kickr. Switch off Zwift control
2.Let the Garmin do its thing. Zwift same as above.
3.Fiddle a workout and adjjust Percentage up or down.

All are just workarounds with their ups and downs.
letting something else control the trainer sometimes grinds you to a halt. zwift has a great trainer control wierdly much better than the native apps to the trainer.
doing a workout is crap in my eyes because some other things just dont work then. be it the social aspect. or coming up to a sprint or KOM.

JUST letting me control the Watts would keep me shut up.

Could you just set the TD to 0%, and then ride at whatever wattage you want to, using cadence and gears to ‘set’ your power?

Why not just use the wahoo app instead of Zwift? That seems like you don’t want any of the features of Zwift in this case.

Not a workaround, just using the right app for purpose.

Thats one of the further “workarounds” if you are happy with that okay.
All I was asking for is simply that I can adjust the Watts to X or Y. I can then just go and do a quick workout on the fly. or go up the alpe on 270 and adjust as I like. then go down at say 200 and then do the big ring at 150 to cool down. and don´t need to check all the time.

I actually enjoy all the features of Zwift. and just because I want to drive at X watts doesn´t mean I dont want the rest. You also can adjust the gearing and still enjoy Zwift. I am not asking for something totally wierd. I just an asking to be able to set a Wattage and ride for 3 hours without having to think about it or constantly abserve it.
Guess it is just me who thinks it would be nice.

The wahoo app is just another further thing I have to connect and adjust. apart from that it is hideous if you for example just rest for a sec. Zwift is much better at that and is quite realistic when you carry on. the wahoo grinds you to a halt if your not careful.
I have used it that way but do not like it.

just a simple ON OFF in settings and no more moaning from me.

Doesn’t this seem to indicate you might just be asking for something weird?

I’m not saying this wouldn’t be useful for some part of the Zwift population, just that there are (many) other things that have been requested far more than this.

Well… it is just a simple request nothing totally off the charts like wanting all the avatars to be naked. there are so many ways to adjust power but the simplest and most straightforward way to simply adjust it is not there.
I also didn´t know that it had to be more or less demanded compared to other requests.
The people I know in real life also all either had the same idea or thought it would be great to have. Thats why I thought I could at least ask.

I went through other requests here. With most I too have an opinion about them. But wouldn´t want to interfere with what I personally think about it. For whoever requested, it is important and they openly say what they thought would be nice.
There are a lot of features and possibilities in Zwift I just do not use because not my cup of coffee. I would not dare to criticize any of it. For some users THOSE things might be THE perfect feature for others it is just a waste of codelines.

Well, it seems simple from your perspective, but might actually be complicated from a coding perspective. (I have no idea if it would be, but it probably isn’t as simple as you’d think.)

the request is simple.. not talking about the work behind it. :joy:

Nah, it’s not just you. This is actually the first thing I tried to do when I got Zwift.. I selected a route, then I was trying to figure out how I just set it to a wattage and ride as long as I wanted so I could zone out without getting too lazy. Seemed intuitive to me that it would be something available.

Instead I have set up a bunch of different workouts (free-rides, Z2, tempo, with various interval lengths so I can leave at various time increments etc.), and use the ± command to move power up/down while in those workouts. I also very often just free-ride, but this is for days where I want to zone out more and make sure I don’t become too lazy

To me it seems like you should just be able to start riding, at any point enable ERG mode at the current wattage, and then fully control it (more than just 25% up/down) without needing a specific workout built/selected, or timeframe in mind..

Exactly. For me it is the most obvious thing I can imagine.
I think we all have a Z2 workout set up at X watts and then fumble with the +/- 25%. totaly wierd for me. and then some other functions are off when you are in a workout. Be it a sprint or a KOM. some other minor bit and bobs I can not recall now.
I like to just start. and if I am in the mood I go for a 10 min threshold+. or a 3 minute Z6 to kill myself. If I can set the watts there is no way out exept falling off the bike.

training peaks virtual seem to be able to pull off many of the features we always ask for with a much smaller team… so it can’t be impossible… just needs someone at Zwift to prioritize certain things… :man_shrugging:

I asked for a “cruise control” feature a few years ago… so not just you

Edit, it was November of 2020… quite a while ago

If you like the request or think its worth it don´t forget to vote for it, thanks. :folded_hands:

that doesn’t seem to matter at all… Zwift have their own set of goals and priorities, seemingly much different than the user bases

It’s not a weird or wholly unique request. Actually for somewhat comparable functionality, it’s why I bought an Elite Zona which comes in handy from time to time.

Perhaps I should have said it might be difficult with the spaghetti code that is Zwift? I’m guessing the code underlying TPV utilizes an entirely different engine.
