I so agree with you!
One good thing about the new system is that now that levels are meaningless (they just kind of tick up on their own) and you get so many XP just for showing up twice a week, I no longer pay much attention to trying to finish at a full kilometre…
I still haven’t shaken that habit.
I still do ![]()
This…
You still have lots of distance to go to reach level 100. You appear to be only at 54.
It will take you a lot of riding to reach 100 however.
Why do you have any pride in levels? They are quite meaningless.
There isn’t anything special anyway aside from a number and some jersey/glasses/socks/helmet unlocks. And the something special is eroded by the bots zooming around the volcano for 12 hours at 5.5w/kg with 170bpm heart rate.
Considering that I was on level ~47 in old money and have managed to gain ~7 levels since then (compared to 2 levels in the previous 12 months) despite nowadays doing more than half of my indoor riding on Indievelo, the levels do indeed seem quite trivial now. Ok, I still feel somewhat inclined to do at least a single one of my workouts per week on Zwift so I guess in that regard the new system probably works as intended.
In old money you were 78% of the way (numerically) to 60. when you get to new level 78 your progress will slow down. it is still too fast in my opinion but probably more in line with what you might expect.
As I have said before I’d have liked them to keep the number of XP needed for 60 to remain the same but make the steps up to it more linear and then added 61 to 100 on top of that.
Add more levels but reducing the top limit makes zero sense to me. But i don’t think the changes were aimed at people like me, my guess is the vast bulk of people were never getting anywhere near old level 60 which is why they decided on the change.
Toss in the Streak bonus, and it makes even less sense.
Possibly it’s the result of wanting to give the higher level riders and those with banked XP some levels to work through rather than moving them straight to 100, whilst at the same time not making level 100 seem ludicrously out of reach for new joiners. Ie not an easy trade off…
With lower XP required in total, that means there are clearly different “trajectories” from this point on to advance to 100 depending on which level you are “starting” from. So everyone is now on their own journey so to speak, but noone can do it any quicker (other than by more riding, streaks etc) than someone starting from above them. And the built up XP still accelerates the higher level riders to some extent, albeit many will still have a significant surplus at L100 and will have taken many more XP to get there versus those starting today.
I still had to do a big climb portal ride with over 10000XP to go from 99 to 100. It’s not like the early days of getting 10x 250XP per lap using the hack, you have to do a lot of distance.
It’s done now.
I also made use of some big route badges to get through the final few levels.
For those less determined it will still take time.
Those veteran riders were new joiners at one point as well. So shouldn’t same rule apply to them? I joined Zwift relatively later than a lot of others but I just ride a lot so hence I moved up the levels fast.
Is anyone else at level 100 keeping track of their level progress once they are at 100?
I’ve noticed a few keeping track (eg Level 102) manually each time the level progress bar loops back to the beginning.
There are more than 10000XP needed to “level up” once you get to 100.
I think when they joined there would have been 25 or 50 levels, so not really the same as 100. Unless the drops per level are reduced, in which case it is much closer overall (actually less) in terms of drops.
This was regarding making drops useful. Having gotten 15k drop awards in the big spin ride repeatedly (with 12.5M banked) has me wondering if anything is happening on this front.
The only thing that would make them useful is if you had to buy chains and tyres and things that wear out. I don’t see this being popular with many people though.
I cant really see what else they could do to make people not accumulate huge numbers of drops after they have bought a few things.
Allow us to exchange them for XP. Even at a miserly exchange rate it’d be worth it.
Can’t really see that happening and probably just kicks the can down the road a bit as it’ll speed people up to maxing out the levels at which point XPs are completely useless as they can’t be used for anything
Level 500 here we come! ![]()
Paying with drops to use coffee break with surge charging on hills?
(runs and hides)
I am also getting those 15K drops bonuses on the spinner wheel to add to my 26.6M drops but I don’t mind.
In my case I just ride a heck of a lot so I will have lots of drops earned. But the occasional user of Zwift won’t have many drops so the current way they are earned is perfectly fine for them.
I vote to leave it as is. It’s an answer in search of a question.
Not necessary IMO. If you ride enough then you’ll level up at a reasonable rate. You still haven’t reached 100 where it does take a lot more time to level up.
They could let me pay the purchase price of a frame to have it removed from the garage.
