Cycling Level 100, XP, Drops, and Streaks [December 2023]

Someone has already made level 100. Granted, that person rides about 8 hours a day. On the other hand, they only needed to ride about 4,000km to go from level 60 to 100.

For myself, I’ve done 290km since the change and have gone from level 60 to 64.5. At this rate I will get to level 100 by doing only an additional 2,600km (the streak bonus will mean I need to ride less km than the person who is already at level 100).

yep i’ve not read this whole chain but it does seems like levelling is too quick now think i’ve gone from 60-67 with the added streak bonus it’s even easier to hit 100. Maybe that was the idea for everyone to level quicker but seeing a level 100 in future will seem slightly less impressive as an old level 60

Fixed it for you.

I’ve done a stack lot of more kilometres than you since the change and I’m only at approx level 69.7 so the accelerated level progression is doing not much for me.

I wasn’t smart enough to keep doing repeats of rewind stage 3 unlike others who just did that and nothing else.

The level race and rewards have become a bit meaningless and given it’s dry outside I’m riding outside instead so my progress will stop.

I suppose the idea is for everyone to be at 100 then all the folk who thought the level 60 crowd were over-obsessed can join that club as well.

Once everyone is at Level 100, some folk will just have to find another way of identifying themselves as being superior.

I’m only level 47, but I am wearing my Zwift beta jersey and shoes. O_o

That is apparently some guy called Keith Roy:

According to his Strava was averaging 1600km per week. Apparently with full time job.

Also 1,250,000m climbing.

Leveling up is ridiculously fast now.
I level up on almost every ride and I am on level 50something.
The streak bonus makes it even worse.
Feels like it’s worthless.
I will be at level 100 in no time and then it’s over?

Yep. Then you’ll just be riding for fitness.

Bummer, eh?

You don’t need Zwift to ride for fitness. There are things games can do to motivate people.

What’s the worry about levels for you, just ignore them.

You’ll enjoy Zwift more if you just ride.

Otherwise you’ll have to kill off your account and start at zero.

The worry is not about me running out of levels.

But about Zwift who put so much time and effort in it and produced such a BS.

I’ve said this many times, but I really wish Zwift was as much fun to play as I find Overwatch. I’d be so fit! :joy: As a game is pretty boring to me.

For example, I’d love to see XP arriving much more fluidly. I mentioned this in another thread, but 2xp every 100m, or heck 1xp every 50m.

Or even just improving the way XP lands. More like playing a Lego video game - collecting studs feels very rewarding to me in those.

I realise this would be divisive, and some people see Zwift as already too gamified. What would encourage me to ride more would no doubt turn other people away.

Two different modes - Game and Sim.

Yeah and put all the robopacers and the racers separate so they don’t get in the way of those of us who just want to ride in the peace and quiet of the countryside

Hahaha :joy:

Three actually, the third being “race” mode with all the tweaks to make big groups slower.

I don’t know if you feel like I do. I worked very hard for a couple of years to get to level 46, and now, since the newest update, leveling up is so easy and fast, that there is no longer any pride in it. The last 8 levels felt like a breeze. Can we please go back to the old ways? I much prefer working for something special then getting cheap swag just for showing up.

There was a lot of discussion about this in the main thread Shooj posted on release of the new levels:

Lots of different opinions of it, I tend to agree with you. Getting to L60 before used to take a lot of riding, but now levels go up so quickly they don’t feel like much of an accomplishment to me personally.

I do agree I had to work to get to Level 50 quite hard - I ended up 832,000XP just before that reset and then ended up with over 1.3m XP before the level 50-60 happened. Now at over 1.4m so really I should be at level 100 already if not for the convoluted level up system - I already did the work to get there.

Even so I’m doing the hard work now and am at level 95, without any hacks or shortcuts.
