People don’t have to literally say things to be showing that they think them. These sort of attitudes often show up in really subtle ways. If you haven’t noticed it, you haven’t noticed it.
Fair enough - i have genuinely never even thought someone was even suggesting that or trying in some way to pull rank due to being a higher level.
other than threads like this that only exist to talk about levels i rarely see anyone even mention what level they are or anyone else is.
Agree to disagree on this one I guess.
Exactly, but they will never please everybody. So they are probably trying to please the majority.
That sounds like a mean thing to do. Why would you do that?
It might really feel like an accomplishment to some.
You needed to quote my full comment for context, not just snip a bit to twist what I said. The comments I was referring to are those talking about how they think other people look at them and think highly of them for it.
So more about ego than achievement. But if that what floats their boat, fair enough.
Quoting the whole quote and asking the same question: Why would you laugh at people thinking about hitting L60 as an achievement? That does sound elitist. Even with the most XP efficient ways of doing it that takes a serious amount of time on the bike which is an achievement for some people. Some people would have taken a decade to get there with their schedule restrictions, etc. The fastest path to L60 before was still a ton of riding.
Remember, that not everyone can ride 20hrs a week. It might be an achievement for someone to get on the bike a few times a week - maybe even once, and I don’t think it’s good to laugh at people for what motivates them.
Did they take a poll?
It’s about time it got nerfed isn’t it?
I never saw the fuss about the tron - I ride ADZ all the time so have enough elevation to get it many times over. And besides some people get it by level up bots.
People don’t think it’s a serious achievement, it’s just a personal accomplishment of putting in time. You are making a straw man argument.
“You can never please everybody, so don’t take reasonable steps to please significant numbers of people without decreasing the pleasure of anyone else.”
They could please 95 percent instead of 80 with very easy to do tweaks though.
If one is going to put time and effort into a system of rewards then one cares about if the system is fair and not arbitrary. If the system is not fair then one is likely to not care about that system and seek out another system that is more fair.
It’s no fun anymore.
With the new level up mode, reaching a new level is not really a big deal. For me it was a sign of respect and effort when I saw Zwifter with a very high level 50+. Now you only have to ride three times a week and you’ve almost reached the next level.
For me it was a long way to level 29, that was a lot of zwift hours. Now I’m already at level 34 since the introduction of the new mode, which means that by the end of 2024 at the latest, almost all Zwifters will be at level 100. Then the levels have no real comparative value or any meaning.
Maybe I’m looking at this the totally wrong way, but I would welcome it if you had to work harder again to reach a new level.
Andy
I agree with you, it is way too easy now… it has only been 23 days since the new level changes took place and I’m already seeing people well into the 80’s. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone is at 100 already. It took me an entire year to go from 50 to 54 and now only 3 weeks to get from 54 to 58. The added streak bonus doesn’t help either, the added XP for riding twice a week is only making leveling up faster.
Obviously that depends on how far you ride in a session. For me, I average 29km per hour across all my sessions (give or take), and in the last week I’ve done 2h 45m or around 85km. That’s 1,700 XP + 1,000 bonus. So I’m looking at maybe a level every two weeks or so (at the moment - it’ll take longer as I level up of course).
I doubt that, really. Level 50 to 100 takes 21,500km or so, which is more than 400km per week. Even if we assume 1,000XP streak bonus every week, that’s still 350km per week just to go from 50-100.
Maybe that’s a typical weekly amount, but it seems a lot to me (I’ve averaged about 40km per week over the past 8 years).
I wonder what percentage of Zwifters actually were already level 60, or how far the typical Zwifter actually rides per week.
have you factored in the 20% discount bonus that most of us are getting?
No, because it’s barely worth considering.
It’s still 344,000 XP or 17,200km or 280km per week.
That’s still a lot in my view. 7 hours at 40kph average is far beyond many riders.
(I realise an hour per day is arbitrary, but I think even that is more than most people do.)
I think your math is off. Here is what I calculated using the 20% discount plus the weekly 1000 XP streak bonus:
Level 50 - 100 would take 297,800 in XP earned while riding (not including any other XP bonus for finishing a route, getting the XP power ups, Alp prize wheel, etc…)
At an average of 700 XP per hour that would be 425.43 hours, or a little over 8 hours per week to reach level 100 in a year.
At an average of 600 XP per hour that would be 496.33 hours, or a little over 9.5 hours a week to reach level 100 in a year.
I average about 6 hours per week on Zwift in a year (less in summer, more in winter) which would be 70 weeks to hit level 100 (if I was currently sitting at level 50). I’m actually at level 58, so it will take me 63.5 weeks to hit level 100.
I could accelerate that even more by farming XP in a number of ways.
Here’s my working. Maybe I’m wrong, but I’ve just gone through it again and it seems right to me.
591,000 - 161,000 (the XP required to get to level 50) = 430,000 XP
80% is 344,000 XP
17,200 km at 20 XP / km
330km per week for 52 weeks
1000 XP streak bonus is 50km
330 - 50 = 280km
There’s already a thread about this with 652 replies: Cycling Level 100, XP, Drops, and Streaks [December 2023]
Do we really need to go over this again?
The thread was specifically about the speed of levelling, while this one is about drops as well as other things, covering a broad range of aspects.
I think more targeted threads on specific aspects are better than monster catch-all threads where several very different conversations are going on at the same place.
Obviously, Gerrie feels differently.
