Error from Zwift, Eric from ZI has confirmed that. IIRC its available at Level 71.
Welcome to Normville. Population: us.
I’m the same. I’ve ridden a lot of times on ADZ and elsewhere and was L60 for a very long time with lots of XP so just give me the level I should be at and spend the time of complex level up adjustments on something else more valuable.
Like another big climb finishing on ADZ.
What’s also interesting is how many folk who don’t care about XP care a huge amount on this topic (by way of many replies) trying to convince others that they shouldn’t care either.
That allows for faster leveling, but if you think of the other half of your XP for each level coming out of your bank, many of us still have unused XP sitting in the bank when we get to level 100. So, it doesn’t address the fairness issue.
Fair enough. I was trying to use a shorthand to say some people would be disincentivized either way. I realize I was too quick to characterize the first group. I recognize some people are also unhappy that others will now be able to progress through the levels with less time/effort than they put in, and some people worry they will never get level credit for “banked” XP—the same problem that existed before the increase to 50, then 60. Those were reasons why I suggested using XPs to measure accomplishment in addition to levels.
For “fun” I wanted to see how few kms travelled someone would have to do to get to the new L50 and acquire the Fire Socks if they wanted to minimize distance but didn’t care about how long it took time wise.
This would be doing two 2km rides per week, getting the 500xp bonus both times starting on the third week, and getting the 40xp for their 2km rides as well. So the first week they would get 2x300xp bonus, then 2x400xp bonus, then the rest would be 2x500xp. Each week they would get 80xp for the 4km they ride.
The total XP they would need to get would be 161,000XP.
In 150 weeks they would have: 680+880+148*1080 = 161,400XP, this is the week they would unlock the fire socks.
In these 150 weeks they will have biked a total of 600km. This assumes you get no other achievements or bonuses.
So, I guess it’s possible to get to L50 and unlock the fire socks in 600km of riding if you don’t care how long it takes
I’m at level 49 and a bit shy of 500k XP. For someone new, level 100 requires 591k XP. It takes 430k XP (-20% for someone in my position) to get from 49 to 100. Never even had to hit one of the level caps to “suffer” from the change. Even double-XP earning (which I don’t get) and -20% would still result in needing more than double what it should take to get me from here to there.
why don’t you get your rider score / XP transferred to the new XP system.
I have 335,000 XP and am only at level 42, that will be equivalent to level 74 in the new system.
is it being redone or what?
I thought this old article from Feb 2021 was interesting for some historical context:
RR: The levels that you can get to in Zwift, is 50 the cap? That’s the highest level right now?
EM: Yeah, it is the cap. What level are you?
RR: I’m level 40, 41, I think.
EM: Okay. It takes a long time to get from 41 to 50.
RR: I’m sure. It’s not linear, right?
EM: It gets geometrically harder.
RR: What percentage of the community is at 50? Is that like 1%?
EM: Seven-tenths of 1%. It’s quite hard to get there. Of course, once you reach level 50, it’s quite an accomplishment, because you’ve really invested a lot of your time and effort. Hopefully, you’ve been rewarded with fitness and mental benefits and social connections and all that. Don’t worry, by the time you get to level 50, there will be more levels. We’re just trying to think about a new reward structure. Our team, our designers are thinking about what that might be, that it might need to change from what it is today.
So in Feb 2021 (or so) Eric Min reckoned 0.7% of Zwifters were at the then level cap of 50.
It would be very interesting just to see the distribution of Zwifters these days (before or after new curve). Are most in the lower 25% in terms of XP? What proportion have hit the level cap of 60 as was?
How many people will take 3 or 4 years to get their XP back from the store?
I also found this from me in a post from Nov 2021:
Joined October 2015, currently level 40.
Personally, I’m not motivated by Zwift levels,
So in 2 years I added 6 levels. And it’s still true that I’m not motivated by levels as such (I think if I did I’d ride more), but what I am demotivated by is having to re-gain XP I’ve already gained (even if I’m still gaining smaller levels).
So you’re in the second category I mentioned, not the third—unhappy because others have a relatively easier path to level 100. A fair complaint if that’s how you feel.
I really don’t care that much, but it’s an obvious mistake on the part of ZHQ. The unlocks don’t do anything useful, I’m actually more annoyed about the change because I was looking forward to grinding away at level 50 for a couple of months and now it came less than 2 weeks after getting to 49.
I’ve gone from level 48 to 50 since this thread started. Not a welcome change to be cruising through levels that fast but I’m going to just ride and accept it how it is. The annoyance is barely worth this comment for me. I don’t mind hearing the other perspectives, this is just me.
Me too!
Another thing that is interesting to look at is how much of a proportion of new levels is the new XP streak.
If you do usually do 50km/week, and ride twice (both times getting the 500xp streak bonus), then the XP streak is roughly 50% of your XP gained. Which is a pretty big difference when you consider how close together levels are now after the rebalance.
That’s 50km*20xp/km = 1000XP, then 2 XP bonuses for a total of 1000 XP.
So, not only have levels gone down, but it’s trivial to get an extra 1000XP per week on top of that, and then there is the leveling bonus on top of that.
I’m thinking this is going to shift me to 1.5 levels per week-ish, maybe a bit less.
Funny that this thread has been running hot for the past 12 hours non-stop and not a SINGLE comment from anyone on the Zwift team. Why are they scared to talk about the elephant in the room?
I agree. My [only] complaint is that the last few levels don’t feel like nearly as much of an accomplishment. (But to clarify, I’m not really complaining!)
They answered all the repeated questions above.
He didn’t say they ignored the questions on the mechanics, they’re ignoring the almost universal complaining about the change.
It would be nice if @shooj or whoever would come in, acknowledge that they missed the mark and then either
a) say they’re going to revisit the change and try to do better or
b) say it is what it is, drop a gif involving pixelated sunglasses and “deal with it” then lock the thread
Because I don’t think even one in ten people are happy with the change for one reason or another.
One in ten people on this forum maybe, you are of course only seeing the people who are annoyed.
Id guess the vast majority of zwift users don’t know, haven’t noticed or don’t care. A very small percentage of users ever even visit the forums and those who do only usually come here when something is wrong.
While I understand a lot of people here are annoyed I don’t think we’re a particularly representative sample of zwift’s user base as a whole.
Yep - but there’s a lot of projection going on amongst those people. As one of those in the 30-50 bracket, I’m just posting to represent those of us who either don’t care or are perfectly happy with the change.
The reaction was the same for ZRS and they acknowledged the error.
