Cycling Level 100, XP, Drops, and Streaks [December 2023]

No actually we’re not. I was replying to the whole sentence not part of it. But whatever, I’m out.

Ok , I’ve seen several comments about the elephant in the room about losing XP points etc.
No, no, no.

The elephant in the room is this STREAK thing.

Am I understanding this correctly?
Does this really increase 100 points every week we ride and is awarded 2 rides per week???

I will ride every week till March or April.
By March 1st, my streak will be 2000 XP for 2 rides for a total of 4000 XP that week just for showing up.
The week before is 1900 per ride X 2 rides.

XP and level used to mean something.

Please tell me I’m wrong otherwise XP means nothing.
Time to move on.

Fortunately, my understanding was incomplete and we max out at 500.

The streak starts at 300 and maxes out at 500. So after 3 weeks you will be on the maximum streak of 500 points.

Thank you

We are constantly working on making the Streaks screen better to highlight achievements and bonus earned during the ride.

Level 54 here, only 20% discounts nu double xp .
2 chevrons, not three. No double xp after closing ride etc.

Just the 20%discount till level 98 while I have currently enough xp to be a level 99. My discounts stops earlier then the level I could be in.
Again no double xp

XP is already meaningless.

Do certain group rides and events and get more XP than someone doing the same route in a free ride.

Do a workout up the alpe and get far more XP than someone riding up it.

Do an hour on the flat and get fat more XP and get fat more XP than doing the same ride on a hilly route. Do a flat route with a pace partner and get fat more XP thanks to the draft.

Now if you do 4 rides a month one a week you get more XP than someone riding 4 rides a month in one week.

I could go on and on.

XP is just a made up thing, levels and the rules are just made up, they only exist within zwift so not worth worrying about. Not sure how being level 67 or 77 will make anyone’s zwift experience better or worse? Not sure the benefit in leveling up quicker? Does anyone care what level anyone else is? Or how would they even find out?

Just ride more and you’ll level up more. Whatever level you are you will get to level X quicker than you would have before this update.

looking at some of the other threads other people probably won’t even see you wearing it!

Without wanting to fan the flames just as things seem to be calming slightly … I am one of the mythical riders between levels 30 and 50 (being currently at 45) and really couldn’t give two hoots for my actual XP, and whether any of it is “lost” or not.

Having started triathlons this year (so concentrated more time on running than cycling), as well as having work done on the house, which has taken away my Zwifting space temporarily, I have been crawling through my current level slower than a snail in a puddle of treacle, so I am delighted that once I can get back on regularly I can start making some progress through the levels more quickly than I have been able to recently … and it has surprised me how demotivating it has been not to feel like I am making progress.

As always on internet discussions, there is a little too much ascribing our own personal feelings to a perceived wider group. Personally I like this change to the levelling system and am looking forward to feeling like I am progressing again, but if you don’t, then that’s a shame and I hope you will not let it affect the other reasons why you use this platform.

As a level 34 rider should I be angry or something? My interpretation of the change is that I’ll now see higher levels sooner. I’m therefore failing to see this as a bad thing, especially since it’s unlikely I’ll ever see level 100 anyway. If folk would just concentrate on their own numbers and stop giving a ■■■■ about other folk, they might get less angry.

The silence is deafening, Brian. It would’ve just been fine if someone from Zwift at the absolute bare minimum acknowledged that there’s a mathematical gap of lost XP. But you won’t even do that. Is it intentionally planned artificial longevity to pad out subscriptions? There’$ alway$ a rea$on in there $omewhere.

Yes. This.

Thanks.

(I don’t care about “the journey”. I just want the rewards I’ve already ridden enough to earn.)

this is a forum on the internet - you should be angry at everything.

The system doesn’t make sense for high xp riders even if you don’t compare to other people (ie new max level is lower xp then old max level).

have you seen the list of “rewards”? Which are you particularly looking forward to?

It’s a massively multiplayer online game. Part of the appeal is figuring out how to maximize your XP under the artificial rules of the game. This is what appeals to Achievers in Bartle’s taxonomy of gamers.

In the past, at least, you might not no what level anyone else is, but you knew that there were very few at the top.

why are levels so important to you?

genuine question, might help me understand why you seem so put out by this. the kit you unlock is just cosmetic stuff and you should have enough drops to buy whatever you want at this point and you’ll actually get more drops now than previously.

Anyone level 51 and above already have enough XP for level 100 on the new scale so there was always going to be unused XP. there are people who have commented in this thread who have millions of XP that will be unused when they get to 100.

As for the weird tin foil hat conspiracy about money - do you assume everyone immediately cancels their membership once they hit the top level?

I thought I’d already answered this. Scotty the Squirrel hat!

At this point, it’s the principle of the matter more than anything. This conversation has been going on for more than a week and has garnered more attention than like any other Zwift forum thread I’ve seen, and the topic of lost XP has been brought up numerous times, and yet you see Zwift staff like Brian here won’t even touch it with a ten foot pole. They know the numbers don’t add up. I’ve already proved that and so have others.

It’s a little sad to see that you and I pay a lot of money every year to pay salaries like Brian’s and he won’t even give the time of day to a very chief complaint. All he had to do was acknowledge the gap of lost XP. I don’t expect them to change anything. Zwift development as it is is already glacially slow. All they had to do was say, “Look, we know it’s inconvenient for some people but we hope that the new level unlocks and the marginal XP bonuses may ease some of that grind.” The first step is acknowledging the problem exists.

To me it’s a PR blunder.
