Cycling Level 100, XP, Drops, and Streaks [December 2023]

Yeah I’ve been on Zwift for a while, also at level 60 for a long time. Totally agree with you.

I would, give an incentive for people to ride more to get the desirable options. The Tron was another item hard to get that gave an advantage that was enough that some people used bots and other means to get it faster.

We all had to start with the lesser frames - and this is part of getting people to keep riding in Zwift, encouraging them to work to achieve the better wheels and bikes.

I do sort of agree.

But Zwift need to do one or the other.

Currently bikes/wheels do have different performance and are unlocked at different level for drops so add even better ones to aim for.

Or make every bike/wheel perform the same and just achieve/buy skins.

What we should not have is being able to get an advantage up to your level but not any higher than your level :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

It would actually be better if Zwift rewarded XP based on performance and not distance. Apply a multiplier based on w/kg or similar. That would encourage performance improvement rather than the ability to sit in a RP group, doing Tempus Fugit for hours on end.

Or perhaps take this opportunity to modify Zwift speed to be more like IRL speed. That would mean the “veterans” got off more lightly for their past performance.

Are the Zwift Safety Bike wheels now locked onto the frame ? Saw that I could not buy the wheels anymore ?

Or do they now unlock after you buy the frame ?

Agreed. I’m at level 39 and was thinking of switching to another platform when I reached level 60, which would take me another year or two. Now it seems I’ll run out of levels even faster, unless Zwift is planning even more levels in due course!? In reality there’s only 2 things left that motivate me; the Buffalo Bike and the Fire Socks, but that’s just me. I’ll ride the Buffalo Bike up ADZ when I get it, which will probably take all day :- :joy:

Personally I liked the challenging level up requirements of the old system, though needing 10,000Xp for one level and 20,000XP for the next and then back to 10,000 seemed odd. Why not just go with 15,000.

Under the new scheme I have mixed feelings about having the XP for a much higher “new” level (but not getting it), while still wanting the challenge of getting there. Nothing worthwhile is not earned.

I guess we’ll all have forgotten about it in a years time.

eBikes for sale :- :astonished:

I think he had some good ideas. Something I’d love to see implemented is something similar to earning status with an airline or hotel. Ride a bunch in a year to earn it, but it isn’t there forever - you have to keep it up the next year to hang on to it. Or could be quarterly, whatever. I have no ideas for what the rewards could be but it’d be a fun carrot to be perpetually chasing instead of hitting the level cap and you’re done. I’m sure you understand why a drops bonus for someone at level 100 is not particularly incentivizing.

I wasn’t very clear. But what I was replying to was the idea of an “extreme aero bike” and similar suggested by another poster, i.e. something providing a significant performance advantage. I wouldn’t object to bikes that were slightly better than the current top-end options.

But this does seem like a great opportunity for Zwift to get creative and make some noticeable cosmetic upgrades available for crazy amounts of Drops.

So providing xp based on your genetics, health, age etc, you mean? I do hope not.

At the moment it’s based on how much leisure time you have, penalising those who are working, have a family, other responsibilities etc. Is that really any fairer?

Yes, because at least that can change more over time.

Basically Zwift has created 3 tiers. New to mid-level 20s that this change is a positive for. Upper level 20 to upper 50s that feel cheated out of their hard earned XP. Level 60 plus that either don’t care or are happy for more levels.

I think the new level curve is the right thing to do for new users going forward, but at the same time is extremely unfair to those in the level 30-60 range. If I were given a choice between the current scheme and going straight to the new level that matches my XP accumulation, I would have chosen the latter. I would be at level 55 with plenty of levels to achieve without the feeling of being cheated.

I haven’t heard an answer on who is actually getting the 20% discount because it isn’t me. I’m getting a 10% “discount” to get to the next level currently.

I was also assured that we would get credit for all rides this week for the streak bonus. After finishing my ride this morning I had a big 01 on the screen and no indication of the previous 3 rides I’ve done since Monday… Never mind this. I misunderstood what I was seeing on the streaks screen so I think I got the streak and bonus XP after this morning’s ride.

Chris, I actually spent 1.5m drops for new gear many years ago, then I earned the TRON bike. I like it. So for some time now, I’ve been earning XPs for the (hopefully) upcoming in-ground pool from the store and more drops to fill it.

That’s like asking, “Why do you care if someone else gets paid twice as much for the same work that you do?”

No. It really isn’t.

It’s a simplified game economy, but it’s still an economy. The work you put in is the riding. The currency you get paid in is a XP. The only thing you can buy with your XP is levels.

Sure. If I were alone in my cage, and I didn’t know that someone else was getting grapes for the same task, I’d be fine with cucumber. But, as a species, we value fairness, just like these monkeys.

Although I’m a rule-follower, but can think/do outside-of-the-box too, I’m strict on making sure I update my weight on my profile. I’ve heard for years that some ZWIFTers may totally fake their age/weight to get some advantage in riding metrics. I think miles/km is the (current) best way to earn XPs, not including age/weight in the calculation.

Correct.

As part of this update to the drop shop we remedied an issue where the wheels associated with both the Zwift Safety Bike and the Zwift Buffalo Fahrrad Bike were being offered for sale on their own rather than part of the unlock for purchasing the bike. Purchasing the bike will now come with the associated wheel as a set.

That’s me but I don’t feel cheated. I like leveling up but I don’t need it to become easier. I ride almost every day so it just happens and the previous pace of leveling was fine. Past level 42 there’s no reason to care about bikes or wheels. Once you can get reasonably performing equipment it matters less and less at each level. The way they’re transitioning to the new leveling formula is too complicated for me to think about it at all but it’ll sort itself out.

Not sure it wouldn’t have been simpler just to bump everyone up to their new level immediately and give Level 100 folks an armband or badge etc and allow them to restart the counter that clicks over again with new armband etc at 2x100 , 3x100, 4x100…
