I’ve been doing Trainer Road workouts on Zwift and have noticed that Companion app shows different power number than Zwift. sometimes its off by as many as 20 watts. Doesn’t seem to be a lagging issue. just seems to be off. I assume Zwift is more accurate than the companion app. is there a way to correct this?
Thanks for the response but that’s not the issue I’m having.
For example an interval will be set for 225 According to Zwift I’m hitting it but when I look at the companion app it shows if at 200-205. I’ll watch it for a bit and it never hits 225 so it doesn’t appear to be a lag.
I definitely notice that the wattage shown in the Companion app is different than what is shown in game, but it’s not wildly different. I think it’s generally a timing issue (averaging over the same amount of time, but each with different start points), or over different lengths of time (e.g. a 3 second average and instantaneous power). I wonder if what might cause values that seem wildly different is just inconsistent cadence, or applying force to the pedals unevenly through the pedal stroke.
I often have my head unit going and reporting power from my pedals (for dual recording purposes) and have noticed this happens particularly in lower-powered ERG mode intervals where I’m not putting a heap of force through the pedals. Do you notice any difference on easy versus hard intervals?
it makes sense that 1 is power and 1 is 3 sec. that would result in a difference. is there a way to tell if Zwift or the Companion app are using 3 sec power?
Today I noticed a difference in both directions. sometimes the Companion app was higher/sometimes lower. there is def a lag of some kind which I understand. (when I stopped pedaling Zwift showed 0 while it took a few seconds for the Companion app to show zero. (that would lead me to believe 3 sec power is used on the Companion app.
also noticed the recovery portion of the ride the numbers were much closer +/- 5 watts.
