Oh yeah, this thread was really going places before. Clearly no one is able to post complaints and how they’re leaving now. Completely derailed.
But sure, okay. Complain away. I’m heading out, if you want to get things back on track, you go for it.

14 days left of my 6 years on Zwift. Any suggestions for a good way to end? A last dalliance with Coco seems a bit tame. Maybe finally get the fancy wheels on the Alpe spinner? Perhaps a last ride of downtown Watopia where I first started?
Let’s get back on track to departure announcements
I just did my first ride on IndieVelo and had a blast. I may just uninstall Zwift on my laptop at this point even though I have a couple more weeks left that are paid for. It’s crazy how many more features we’ve all been asking for that are already over there.
Edit: Rode in a pretty robust pace group with lots of former zwifters. Everyone was kind and helping me navigate the app.
I would say the only case where talking about a competing product on a forum like this is bad form (and indeed in some situations and jurisdictions even illegal) is if you get paid to do so (and don’t disclose it).
Also, being aware of what else is out there should be worthwhile for the company itself as well. Keywords: business intelligence, benchmarking.
(I guess this summer I might finally figure out how to use GT Bike 5…)
On the indieVelo discord there’s an entire section dedicated to discussing the merits and updates of other platforms.
Why would you have that? Wouldn’t the right place to discuss that be on the other platform’s forums, or do you mean that all platforms should have a section for all other platform’s updates?
Zwift should charge $1 to post on the forum. They would make enough money from Tom to avoid a price increase.
This idea of a ‘right-place’ is a mirage. It’s key information relating to the topic being discussed. Simple as that.
iV Discord discussion groups have grown to cover topics wanted by the users, much the same as the feature set. It’s called listening to the customer.
Hope you told them its really not the done thing
Sure I would suggest trying other things if I thought I was helping someone understand their options and make the best choice to have the most fun or reach their goals, but I wouldn’t evangelize or apologize for any platform.
Benchmarking, business intelligence.
On the other hand, for any Zwift competitor’s product team, this forum has to be an invaluable resource.
It is the evangelizing I have a problem with.
There are loads and loads of good ideas that Zwift haven’t touched, ready to implement
Don’t get me started on it either, the only people it was good for were the sprinter types. For anyone light it was a joke of totally unrealistic autobraking. Soon as you even started to briefly coast, bang, lost 3-4km/h then stuck behind someone else and have to do a huge sprint to get around them. It doesn’t equally affect everyone, that’s the problem.
Thankfully the racing crowd doesn’t care about the mountain routes (majority only seems to like flat routes). The last place where your effort is not mucked up by stupid autobraking.
I just wish they would add dropped chains and punctures to increase realism in races. Want more breakaways succeeding, there you go.
Maybe also hide the power, watts/kg and heart rates of other Zwift riders (making it like real life). Another way to help a breakaway start, you only see it when they have gone past.
Saying platform A is better than platform B in the context of a certain feature or experience is fair game IMO. I spend a lot of time trying to help people have a better experience on Zwift - probably more than is reasonable. I’m probably among the top posters on this forum trying to help people enjoy their ride using this product. And nevertheless I’m not afraid of saying that some other product is worth a look, especially if the thing they want is not what Zwift is best at. Like if someone says they hate all the “game” stuff and enjoy riding alone, want lots of routes, don’t like the graphics, there are products out there that offer that. If they care most about race integrity, there are options for that too.
IndieVelo certainly seems like a product where the devs did read this forum and implemented many of the good ideas from here, unlike Zwift. Just hope they won’t reach parity on the bug side as well. (It did forget my login for the first time a few weeks ago, which Zwift has been doing for me at least on a monthly basis for years now…)
You are doing a great job @Paul_Southworth! My reaction is more about the situation. Many users are upset now and some posters are trying to take advantage of the situation on Zwift’s forum. It does not taste good in the mouth.
Any upset is on Zwift and the nature and delivery of their announcement. Cyclists giving each other advice about alternatives is just human nature & long may that continue.
