How zwift with the vast membership number in the market, and within poorest improvements, cry for didn’t raise prices from 2017,other apps have small numbers of clients but with better content, it’s a far of reason subscription increase, zwift will loose more than he’ll gain.
I am not going to move or cancel for the sake of £5 per month. I get that you would be annoyed if you have recently signed up but if you have been using it for years then this has been coming.
People can also moan about the lack of development etc but Zwift has got to make money at some point or it wont exist. The same goes for all the free or cheaper alternatives people say they are going to move to. Cycling is still a relatively small sport in terms of profile and indoor cycling is a smaller subset of that. If the market leader is struggling to make cash then you can guarantee the more recent entrants or smaller players will face the same problems sooner or later.
It’s your choice, and I agree to a point, but every company is raising prices even if they are making profits, by the sounds of it Zwift was doing ok, but the shareholders wanted more for their investment, so we have to pay, what people will do is just use it when they need it, ie winter, so the price rises will not help anybody. Zwift nor Consumer, shame they did not offer us the annual plan before the rise, this speaks of greed, and what irks me the most, not for me but for others, as I just cancel for the better weather months, but lot’s of people love to zwift year round.
meanwhile myWhoosh is rubbing his hands…
I’ve cancelled my membership for now, I would normally let it roll over during summer but I think I’ll use Zwift for winter training and the free option for summer training. Who knows maybe I’ll look at other software too!! I mostly use it to do training plans so I can do that on anything.
Nope, nope and washing my car costs 1€ and for that 1€ i get a result. Where is the result for paying more now?
i’m not zwifting due to ill health, and have been paying the subscription so i can keep the banditz running, a 38% increase in my situation is not acceptable so therefore i have pause my membership for as long as possible so i can think whether to cancel it altogether, As ride leads, sweeps, group owners we already give up plenty of free time for the zwift community, just in the banditz alone i think you have lost quite a few riders , good luck with your new stratagy i think you are going to see some testing times
Yes, but if the cost of soap, water etc goes up and it costs more to wash your car you still have a result but it cost more.
I would pay 50€ a month for a serious training App for cyclists. No problem.
But 20€ for a ‘Game’ with silly Power-Up gimmicks that only appeal to 10 year olds, introduced by non-cyclists (probably gamers with humongous headsets on, eating popcorn all day) who don’t even understand what Power-Ups factually do and that they are effectively CHEATS.
And where are the updates ?
For nearly 10 years Zwift has totally and systematically IGNORED criticism about the most basic elements of the platform…
The way Zwift is run is pathetic and it has only survived this long because there is hardly any competition.
What a lousy way of saying ‘thank you”, Zwift HQ !
That’s basically what I do, so normally 3 months on zwift (December, January, and February), the rest of the year I ride outside when the weather allows
20€ per month !! subscription cancelled. bye zwift.
In effective terms, the increase to me is only about $1.67/month. Because, I was doing 12 months a year x $15/mo. Then they came out with Annual plans that saved some money (and expires in Jan) for a year. And now the annual plan at $200 equates to $16.67/month. So I’ve got this year cheaper than any prior year, but 2025 will cost me $20 more than it cost me in 2023.
I’m certainly not! Cycling is a ridiculously expensive sport as it is.
I find this a really strange way to rationalise this price increase.
Coffee/meals are expensive because it takes a dedicated employee to prepare your cup in addition to a very expensive coffee machine and a rental building for a limited amount of customers. To the best of my knowledge, my bike isn’t being set up by a Zwift employee, nor am I using their facilities to set up my zwift equipment in.
Zwift is a multiplayer videogame and you should compare pricing / development cost within this realm. So let’s leave aside the coffee/meal comparisons from here on out.
In a world where people are mindlessly blowing money away on luxuries like DoorDash and multiple streaming services, is this hobby really not worth $20 a month? I mean, let’s be serious for a moment.
All those comparisons versus other spends are completely pointless. Sure, at an individual level you could decide to have 1 less coffee and pay the extra, but that’s as far as it goes. It’s not logical to apply that thinking to all users.
At the end of the day, it costs X amount and you decide if you get value for that X amount. There are many things that influence that… your income, the available competition, the impact to you of not subscribing any more, the fact it’s summer, etc etc. Inevitably such a large rise is going to get people to reconsider their position based on all of those factors, especially when there is a general feeling of frustration at Zwift’s lack of agility and the changing competitor landscape.
Morning di u think zwift are trying to run down the app.
Just dont get this price rise with my whoosh in the background???
I still haven’t had the price rise email yet, but my thoughts are that Zwift have just become the ring.com of cycling and have automatically assumed that the subscriber base will suck it up. They clearly didn’t read the room.
But,
The cycling industry is imploding with many brands going to the wall in the middle of a cost of living crisis, the majority of the users are coming into outdoor season and there really hasn’t been much from Zwift in terms of improvement in the last year or so and they’ve wasted a fortune on failed ventures or poor partnerships.
I usually let my subscription run through the summer just in case of rainy days, but I’ll be thinking hard this year about pausing it. And if I keep it, something else will go to offset it…. Strava premium most likely as their last rise miffed me off but I missed the chance to stop the renewal. Might even junk my TrainingPeaks too thinking about it.
I guess the good news here is that they at least didn’t go with any of the crazy plans with variable pricing that were floated in a number of user surveys earlier…
But yeah, wasn’t going to suspend my subscription for the summer (consider it a TdFFaZ tax or something) but now I’m having second thoughts.
