Changes to our free trial offerings [July 2025]

We’re writing to let you know about a forthcoming change to simplify our free trial offerings.

Effective from August 1st, the current 25km free trial offered to paused, or lapsed, Zwift members will be discontinued. We want to thank all our members who took advantage of this offering in the past.

Please note that we will continue to offer a 14-day free trial for new members to discover the benefits of our platform.

I don’t care about the freeloaders getting cut off, but the one thing that concerns me is the people trying to pay, or actually paying, but not seeing their renewal recognized (eg, Apple app store users). This change will increase the pressure to resolve those issues since they will be dead in the water. It makes me wonder if recent developments to permit in-app payments that bypass the app store payment system could be leveraged to get rid of those problems.

Probably the right decision imho, (should have happened the same time as the price raise… )

Will generate an awful lot of noise though. Good luck

While I’m not generally in favor of announcements being posted on other social media sites, especially if they are not posted here, this one probably should be posted on Facebook, Redit, etc. if it isn’t already.

They are probably‘discussing’ over who’s account it has to be posted from.. Im not sure James could cope with the tags out of the back of that post.

Noise form freeloaders :man_shrugging: other than assume as Paul’s suggests those than have payment issues.

Will this affect the free runners, or just riders?

for at least FB though, Zwift does have it’s own site, though they rarely seem to use it to actually disseminate news about their own platform/app. Seems to be relegated to just events for some reason:

ht tps://www.facebook.com/gozwift

Deshalb und auch sonst eine sehr unfreundliche Ankündigung.

Hi,

Think Zwift should focus on keeping casual riders subbed during summer months, You guys should consider, creating 2-3 different levels of subs with access pack to unlock. let’s say Tier 1 starts at 5€, then Tier 2 at 10 and normal sub that unlock everything. then you could be tier 1 and unlock Race Access pack or something like that.

For now, I think lots of people won’t keep their sub going on as It doesn’t justify the cost when you’re not using it often enough, those users will probably go to competing platform as it’s cheaper.

then, you could also implement Premium sub, with early access to new routes, special Bike skins, etc..

lots of idea to improve experience for casual riders and also for zwift to be profitable.

It would be rather comical if come August, a large number of events no longer attract enough riders to keep their place, due to the abrupt change of free trial policy.

ZwiftHQ could simply have made the trial strictly 25Km, instead of being able to complete the ride you’re doing when you pass 25Km provided you began that ride with more than 1Km left.

They could have changed the trial to strictly 60 minutes of riding.

All this is going to do, after their urine extracting price hikes last year (which effectively meant the equivalent of ~5% annual rise since the last hike) is push even more turbo users to try other platforms.

I’m not sure if Watt Games will have online multiplayer, but a one-off fee of ~£20 looks attractive, if you aren’t a fan of using the free MyWhoosh.

they have done that, once you hit 25km you stop

Maybe it’s being done to get rid of the hack to obtain almost-free miles? ie. those who use the 25km on a burner account to get to the top of a climb (eg VenTop), then sit there so that other real accounts can keep teleporting there in order to ride the downhill miles.

EDIT: Nevermind, I see free trials are only going away for real users, so the above hack is still valid.

People used to cycle 4 or more free accounts..

You could ride twice per week, one x 24km, one x however long you wanted. And then week 2 swap to the second account.

Let’s say I did VenTop. Would the person be my friend on Zwift, and when I’m at the top, wouldn’t they teleport where I am and ride downhill?

Oh, last time I stopped dead at 25Km several months ago, the previous ride finished with just under 1Km left.

Absolutely. My 3 month gift card subscription expired when we were in the hospital with my son. We got home and I knew to check it out because I had the 25km banner on my screen.

When this issue last came up for me, I was advised to move to Zwift’s billing. It’s a common practice to have some clunk in the process and nudge people towards website subs that you keep the full % of, rather than paying the 30% fee to Apple. Not saying zwift is deliberately doing this.. but if it quacks like a duck, looks like a duck etc

@Paul_Southworth We’ve made improvements to our payment systems over the years so subscribers paying through Apple have a more seamless experience. One example: we did away with the “Reactivate Subscription” button that was once required to sync your Apple subscription to Zwift.

There is a remaining situation affecting Zwifters using a shared Apple device who may not be able to ride if their Zwift subscription is re-activated using a different person’s Apple account credentials. We can’t prevent that mistake from happening. Should this occur - our Support Team can assist after the fact.

No one should see a 25 km trial message after August 1. The end of the 25km free trial applies to cycling accounts. Running-only accounts remain free.

Sehe Ich genauso.
Das war es dann mit Zwift. Im Sommer bin ich bei Regen gerne mal eine Tour im Monat indoor gefahren, im Winter habe ich Zwift abonniert.
Naja ander Mütter haben auch schöne Töchter…
