a super great stupid move, my compliments guys, you really rocks…
So the new freeloading meta is to make a series of new accounts every 14 days? Well, that’s one way to drive up the user metrics
Just out of curiosity -
I know that currently a member is based on email address.
What really constitutes a “new member” in the way forward regarding 25km free trial.
Is it email address only?
Will the system tag IP address also?
If so, how will that affect multiple users with different email addresses from the same household?
In the past I’ve known at least one acquaintance to just cycle through “fake” emails for free access. There isn’t a verification code or secondary verification so you set it up and it worked, no questions asked.
I think eliminating the free 25km a month is a big mistake. If the suggestion of a 5 year customer is important to Zwift specially now I will say in the summer months people need to enjoy the outdoors. Some who live to work only have time to ride indoors. Zwift saved me from anxiety and depression when the pandemic hit. I joined and participated and completed Zwift Academy 2020 when Matthieu Van Der Poel got his contract with Alpecin Fenix. That 25km free kept people coming back and by removing it you are telling us that Zwift is rich now and do not need give away anything as little as 25km free. Now, many will go to Rouvy who copied you guys and maybe in the next 5 years when they grow as big as Zwift they too may take away their 25km free. Another app will already be in the picture.
My 2 cents worth
I sent an email to Zwift and an account specialist told me to copy and paste my email because others here in the forum may share in the way I feel about this and that’s the only way to implement something is when others are on the same page
This is already being discussed on the forums over here: Changes to our free trial offerings [July 2025] - #36 by Dan_Kothlow
My personal opinion is that Zwift has thought carefully about this and decided ending the 25km free per month will convert enough users back into paying customers to risk losing a few. None of us know what the Financials look like so we can only give opinions, and I think if you use a product you should pay for it and I shouldn’t have to subsidize your use of the platform.
I too think Zwift should keep the free 25 km per month. It keeps people in touch with Zwift and makes them feel they are still part of the family. If they don’t, riders could try other programs like My Whoose which is free and they might not come back to Zwift in the winter. I have an annual membership so have never used it, but I think it is a mistake for Zwift to drop it.
in fairness they have to return capital plus interest for all of the VC money they raised. They’ve probably blown a lot on greasing the wheels with the UCI and probably have at least done well promoting the likes of MvDP. With that said, no kiddie accounts, no family plans and no monthly refresh of the trial miles seems a bit extreme. But it took about 7-8 for a yearly subscription so maybe in the next decade this will be resolved too. But out of general curiosity, when there are free platforms, why try to squeeze the 25k out of zwift?
I already have a Zwift account. Not a paid member yet. How do I benefit from my friend’s referral link?
Assuming you’ve never had a paid account you just need the referral link
That’s not really what the FAQ says.
It says -
Once a friend who has never Zwifted uses your link to create an account and begins their trial, they will have 30 days to try Zwift out.
Emphasis is mine.
If someone has already created a Zwift account, they won’t be able to get the free trial.
Also of note, if you are on an annual subscription, you cannot get the free 30 days for referring someone to Zwift.
