Does anyone know if route badges are awarded if a route is ridden with a robot pacer group?
On several occasions now I’ve ridden more than the distance of the complete route but have not got the badge.
I wonder if this is because you join a robot at a random start point instead of the actual start of the route.
Any ideas?

This is it. You only get a route badge if you go through the start and finish in the same route. So if the pacer is halfway a route you still need to do the start and finish part and so do more than one lap.

I believe there’s an additional issue at the moment where you would have to start riding the route and catch on to a robo-pacer, even if you do a full lap from start through finish you won’t get the badge if you start riding with pacer. Can’t find the reference at the moment but I believe that was confirmed by a Zwift employee (I also had it happen to me)
Maybe due to missing the lead-in?
You certainly can’t use the teleport facility. I believe advice is to join the robopacer ride from the in game Home Screen.
I did just that today: joined taylor from home screen and then stuck with him until we passed the start of loch loop and kept going until the finish, but no route badge 
Surely it can’t be because I had zero cadence at 2 downhill sections?
no this wouldn’t be the case, the route badges with robopacer groups are very hit or miss… I’m not sure if anyone actually knows why some will work and some won’t.
Better option, if you need the badge, choose the route from the homescreen or add it to “My List” via the companion app. If the pacer is on the same route then eventually you will see them and can jump in the draft.
