Apparent riders in front of me?

Hi there,

Sorry to ask a silly question here. But I’m trying to fathom why when I’m riding in a group event, it says I’m (ie) 400/700th. But I can only see about 20/30 riders in front of me for most of the race. I’m currently doing the TDZ events all at 1-5W/kg cats, are there races running parallel? Pretty sure last year I wasn’t having this issue, and with the world the way it is these days. I’m sure there are a lot more people riding in Zwift.

Hi Jodi, don’t forget zwift only shows the 100 nearest riders to you. You possibly may have 20-30 in front with quite a few behind you.

Thanks for the reply. I understand what your saying, and never knew you only saw 100 riders. But this will be from the starting pen to the finish line. So am I right in saying there are parallel rides on where your grouped in similar W/kg out puts and you just don’t see the other riders?

You’re correct - this change was made over the December 2020 / January 2021 releases. Drawing only the avatars in your immediate vicinity is less taxing on your computer’s GPU

This is especially important in events like Tour de Zwift with tons of other riders in them, and even more so on mobile devices without a ton of RAM, where the data bottleneck can result in low frame rates and possibly - application crashes.
