thank you so much @Gerrie_Delport, yes, I did the firmware update and the manufacturer calibration, which makes the trainer working perfectly and smooth on its app, (Kinetic app), but I want to use the Zwift with the correct / realistic parameters… (looks like I grew old too fast to follow the technology speed, lol)!
Then try it with a ANT+ Stick and connect it via ANT+ FE-C
Hm. Sounds like you’ve already done the right things with both trainers.
- update the firmware for the trainer
- use the manufacturer’s app to calibrate the trainer.
- update your Zwift game app (there was an update yesterday by the way)
- run an FTP test if you don’t know your FTP number, or if you know your FTP number, verify that it’s entered correct in your profile settings. While you’re there, you may want to verify your height / weight / age / gender settings, as those will have an effect on game physics.
If your Bluetooth signal isn’t that great, an ANT+ USB dongle for your Macbook may help. They’re not that expensive, so it couldn’t hurt to try it.
Hey @Bench, sorry for the rookie questions, what’s FE-C?
(shameful: but as I state above, technology got too fast to me, Sam doing what is possible to meet follow, but, sometimes, for me, it is just slower than for the average person…9
tank you so much…
I know soon it all, thanks to you guys, will be done positively and I will be riding smoothly, happy also able to support in the same way newer fellows in this community,
cheers!
@shooj: awesome, I am going to double check and re-check these items by you listed! definitely worth the effort!
much appreciated! cheers
That’s just an addition (or the newer version) of the ANT+ wireless standard.
It is completly beyond me, why trainer manufacters don’t add USB and LAN/WiFi in their trainers. But it is what it is.
Thank you @Bench!
Lincoln, you can also adjust trainer difficulty in options screen. So for the R1 if resistance is to high maybe lower the difficulty in options screen. You prob know this but just in case.
Hello @Will_Botti_C, thank you for your input,
unfortunately is not it also, it is being very frustrating experience with this Kinetic R1 T7000 trainer, it is a big turn off, as I just bought it, fro a very expensive price actually, as I pay 850 Euro, (being in an Island has its down sides too - Malta), and it is totally useless for what I wanted to use actually, (I want to take part on the Zwift training to improve my riding quality for the upcoming season)… seams that I got an useless piece of… - does anyone there has this same equipment and actually works well? I am just curious right now…
just finished a 45 minutes short session on my Zwift, where even walkers passed me on uphills of Central Park,
That does not seem normal.
I have a friend that use a R1.
@Justin_Wagz_TeamODZ you did not experience this.
Yes, I do have an R1 that I’ve been riding on Zwift for months, and I can confirm I’ve seen the power accuracy issues that others see, and I know Kinetic is working on that. For me personally I use power numbers from a separate device (either Garmin vector pedals, or a Quarq spider) and I definitely don’t have issues with resistance being so high that runners go past me.
Two thoughts that might help:
- If the power readings are REALLY low, then this could explain why the avatar isn’t moving fast (only solutions to this would be try and calibrate again, or use a different power source)
- I’m not sure anyone asked about trainer difficulty setting yet, that setting can also affect this behavior, so it would be interesting to try setting it to 0% and see if the problem persists or not, or try running a lower percentage than is currently set.
Earlier on in the thread there was mention that you need to calibrate the R1 every time you ride it, and that is NOT TRUE. Once you do a proper calibration, you really shouldn’t need to calibrate for a very long time, like months, or maybe if the temperature in your zwift room changes drastically over the months.
thank you so much @Gerrie_Delport, and @Justin_Wagz_TeamODZ, you guys are of a great support! for which I am truly thankful… unfortunately, I have set the resistance down to 0% for this ride, as another user here of the forum did advised to try, and no, it did not work too… my speed was at 2 to 4km/h uphills on the Central Park, at 8% inclination, at around 60-80W)… I have being riding here in Malta for the last week, and here has some bad ass hills (short, but uhuuu), sometimes far above 20%, which I am riding at 250-280W… I know it is nothing special, and I am not bragging the numbers, I am just saying it to comparison matters with the readings of the R1… (I am a beginner. but I am so frustrated because I bought with the intention to use it as a tool to help me to improve my power output, participating of the Zwift trainings), what a turn off…
Thanks Justin for the insight, sometimes it help to know people.
I am looking at your Last ride, I see the low power numbers except for the burst at the end but it look you you did about the same cadence.
What powermeter do you use outside?
@Gerrie_Delport, thank you so much gerry,
yes, I got mad at try an all out effort to see if it moves, and I spin on my maximal for few seconds, (I have done the same few dy ago in my other Home Trainer in Vienna, and I did slightly above 600w, which is at near of 300% difference), I have no power meters on my bike, I am using the estimated average power that strava offers. As I say I am a newby (I am an ex-professional fighter that got into run/bike as a anti-depression therapy on the moment post-professional carrier retirement), never had a road bike before… I am loving it and I am aiming to learn, improve, and overall enjoy it… these setbacks are a turn-off and takes a lot of time, it takes out of the fun of it… I called the supplier here in malta, I asked them to take the R1 back and review it at them shop, with them cyclists to see if they are accurate with them personal data on that. they will do it tomorrow. I am looking forwards for the outcome.
yesterday I ride twice, on the first ride of around 45 minutes, I literally went hard, and got an overall 103w average, (got wobbling legs), Sunday I run a half-marathon race here in malta, in which I average 314w for the entirely race (using a Stryd power meter for run). these numbers should somehow, correlate?
thank you for lal @Gerrie_Delport, and all of you guys that are supporting, I am learning a lot with that interaction. cheers
Sorry to start the thread and then abandon it. Just as info, I went with a TacX Neo instead of the R1 and it is a night-and-day difference on ERG mode adjustments during short intervals in workouts in comparison to the Kinetic Rock and Roll wheel-on smart trainer I had been using. Part of that may be that I have fairly low FTP numbers (~150) from being old, fat, and out of shape, so the resistance floor for me is really close to the bottom end of what the unit can do. Also, I went from wheel-on to direct drive, so that’s also likely a factor in accuracy and convenience. Anyway, for me, the Neo just feels smoother, more accurate, and quicker to adjust output during short intervals, and I can focus on the ride and stop stressing out or getting angry at the equipment causing me to miss segment awards.
I realize the Neo is a lot more money than the Kinetic, but at least it was a “you get what you pay for” sort of thing. I sold my wheel-on Rock&Roll smart trainer to a much more in-shape buddy and he likes it, and I like my new Neo.
Just to clarify, you shouldn’t need to calibrate each time. It retains the calibration figure between rides.
Yup… I posted that back last year when I was very new - Like 5 or 6 days in, based on what I had read elsewhere. But I do agree with you: You DO NOT need to re-calibrate each time (should have updated a while ago (whoops!)). I tend to re-cal now every month or two… i.e. When I feel like it.
I just bought the R1 and all in all I’m happy with it.
Although it’s getting really warm, the fan is not hearable. Is this normal? I’ve read the fan should be very loud, but I don’t hear it at all.
The cooling fan seems to be disabled (running the latest update 2.4). Anyone here with the same experience?
Hi Joshua, I’ve made same expirience. I have got my Kinetic R1 for several days. After several attempts to fix R1’s Bluetooth interruptions on my computer, I was able to ride on zwift for an hour yesterday.
After the ride I noticed a smell of heated electrical components. I touched my R1 power unit and it was very hot!
And the high temperature isn’t haelthy to the R1 in my opinion.
The fan inside was not working. The firmware version is 2.40 too. There are videos on YouTube which show a noisy fan.
I got this answer from the support team on the 18th of May.
“The fan is disabled in the current firmware, it will be added back here shortly.”
So it seems to be all right.
