Anyone using an older Mac with a Bluetooth 4.0 dongle? Trying to get built-in bluetooth to work.

I have a 27" iMac, Mid-2011, that I just retired from the office and moved to the Zwift cave. In the interest of removing as many intermediary links as I can, I was trying to set up built-in bluetooth. The older iMac doesn’t support BLE, so I picked up a Bluetooth 4.0 dongle (Iogear GBU521).

I set everything up using Bluetooth Explorer, and it looks like 1. the dongle is the active bluetooth connection, and 2. my Wahoo KICKR, Powertap C1, and TICKR all show up on the BLE device list, but they don’t show up in Zwift when I try to pair using built-in Bluetooth.

Everything works fine when I use the Mobile Link app but I’d like to eliminate that link in the chain if I can. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hey, I know this is an old post - but I had an idea for this problem, as I’m running into the same issue with my old MacBook. It’s not an optimal solution, but it may work for you. Since your phone works, you can use AirServer to mirror your phone screen onto your iMac. They have a free 14 day trial, and if you like it, you can purchase it for 17 euros. Not the greatest solution, but a cheap one.
