Yesterday I rode the jungle course for the first time and I noticed on the way from the starting point to the round course in the jungle, that there is a building site on the right with warning signs and a fence blocking the future road.
I guess there will be the new flat course heading.
That’s been there for months…
Ok.
Did not know.
But why is it there?
Because people like to complain. No matter what route or world gets released, there will be complaints. And those who like to complain the most are the ones who end up doing so online and are not a representation of the majority.
While I too believe that Watopia Flat is probably the most ridden route, I would not put too much credence in the heat map. As someone else alluded to, how long has Watopia Flat been available vs some of the others.
Well Spring is here! No flat expansion announcement. Zwift has officially missed the “unofficial” winter deadline. Let the indignation begin
On the other hand, I did receive an invitation/announcement for the Tour of Watopia
I imagine we will see the new expansion as part of the Tour of Watopia if not before!
Wasn’t London expanded in Q1 last year as well with the big hill?
Oh yeah… I think Leith Hill was in January 2018. I’ll have a look and update the post above.
I like NYC because of the rolling nature of the routes… not too flat, not too steep (excluding the glass route)
You can’t please all of the people all of the time.
On one thread Zwift are being criticized for not releasing things quickly enough, on another they are being criticized for not testing things enough before releasing them…
I’m sure that we all have our favorite routes, other people will hate them. I personally don’t like NY at all, but sometimes when I’m selecting Watopia, there are more than double the amount of people riding NY.
We just need to remember that it’s not all about us. Last night I did the volcano kom route for the first time in months, I really enjoyed it. We need to mix things up ourselves to keep ourselves interested.
I’m grateful for having such an amazing training tool available to me, I could have been quite good if this had been available a few years ago (and I was lighter!).
here’s what I see as the root issue.
People dont want separate ‘courses/routes’, they want a contiguous ‘continent’ where they can ride for x hours without having to do loops of the same roads.
This is the primary reason I’m not using ‘other’ software because they all suffer from the same thing, separate courses. Not interested in that. I want a cycling continent thats all connected and I can choose where I want to ride on any given day/workout.
That cycling continent can be a combination of real world roads and virtual roads all combined to make a great cycling/running environment.
yes, but the majority of riders are from the Northern hemisphere. i would imagine there will be a drop off in riders (and possibly subscriptions) in spring, so the new release would coincide with this drop off point to hopefully curtail the canceling of subscriptions. I see the Tour of Watopia is up in April…maybe a time to release some new roads then?
Seems to me that drop-off is already underway (I normally stop using Zwift in early April). I dont think this a Zwift strategy. They said they would have a new flat route this winter. It didn’t happen, likely because the prioritized other things, not to hold onto subscribers
“What does that say that we got 3 expansions last year and none of them are such that people are content. To me that says those upgrades missed the mark.”
you mean they missed YOUR mark. i’d say people are content, have you actually looked at the numbers of people riding the guest worlds vs watopia at any given time?
also consider that the number of people who used these forums is tiny compared to how many actual people there are using zwift, and the ones complaining about this or that aren’t even a majority of those on the forums.
no matter who you are or what you do, you’ll always have people complaining. i’m glad zwift is moving forward at their own pretty dang impressive pace
Its not a fair comparison to say more people are riding the guest worlds compared to Watopia. Watopia is available 24/7 and guest worlds are on a limited schedule so people are more likely to jump onto them knowing it could be a few days before they come round again.
This is different than pre-guest world selection how?
If all the disgruntlement about Richmond, Innsbruck, NYC on here represented the majority of Zwift users, then w/guest world selection Watopia would be killing it. Instead, the guest world is often showing higher numbers than Watopia. I believe this is the argument being made.
Speaking for myself, every day this week so far, the guest world has had more riders than Watopia when I rode during lunch. In the past, I have not really paid attention to this. I was thinking it might be due to one or more of the following:
- Current “Ride the Worlds Mission” driving more traffic to the guest worlds.
- My geographic location / timezone (GMT +8)
- Time of day. Lately riding at noon instead of early mornings.
Hi, just out of interest, why do you think these would make any difference?
Geographic location: I’m in Taiwan. Perhaps the preferences are different here. It would be interesting to see stats related to Zwift usage (e.g., country, time of day, world preference, course preference, etc…)
Time of day: Riding around noon local time, I have been seeing less than 200 riders in game. I rode around Watopia the other day and ran into less than 10 riders. When I was starting my rides between 5-6am local time, the numbers are substantially different, but I never really looked at the world selection. During that time, we have all of the morning Asia crew as well as part to the Australia morning. But more importantly, you have the USA east coast coming on shift and the evening Europe Zwifters.
I suspect the current mission is driving most of the guest world traffic. Maybe going forward, I’ll grab a screenshot of the rider world numbers when I Zwift.
Speaking of Watopia expansion and Tour of Watopia starting April 2 (with planned update April 1), did anyone notice the Tour picture shows 6 mountain peaks whereas, there are currently only 4? (Alp, Epic, Volcano, and KOM)
aha…and 7 on the icon in the left bottom corner.
Do you think they are hiding something from us?
Russian hackers involvement?.. )) Again?! ))
__ p.s. but who knows, who knows, we might see some new routes in the nearest feature.
Lol, rumored for 2022 is Mt. Everest itself. Probably an ‘in-office’ joke.
