2025 - Garmin Intensity

Garmin transfer from Zwift - No more Intensity
Intensity minutes are not being transferred for cycling events. This started just after 12/20/24. Ironically, they do transfer perfectly for running events performed in Zwift.

I’ve never had intensity minutes appear in Connect when I record an activity in Zwift. Nor TSS etc. I always dual record to get those to work.

A run from this week

That’s interesting. Looking back at Zwift activities I have in Connect I see no intensity minutes in any from 2023 or older.

I have a few from around August 2024, and you’re right, I do have intensity minutes in those ones. I presumed I didn’t as I’d given up on it ever working by then.

I still don’t have TSS or Intensity Factor though.

Maybe something changed after an update. But I would dual record your next ride. Should be good after that. Worked for me :person_shrugging:

To get Intensity Minutes, wear your Garmin watch and stick it in HR Broadcast mode (it doesn’t matter that you’re not using the broadcasted HR anywhere).

That’s currently working for me on the Tacx platform, using my Fenix 7.

And just like that! It’s back after today’s ride. Spooky!!

No intensity minutes for me today or load for the last few days. I wonder what the problem is

Intensity Minutes aren’t calculated from Zwift activities, only Garmin devices per this Garmin support article on Intensity Minutes:

Can I Get Intensity Minutes From Training Apps or Third-Party Activities?

Third-party recorded activities or activities from the Tacx Training™ Apps are not compatible with the Intensity Minutes feature.

If you wear your Garmin device that does not require the 10 minute threshold while recording activities using third-party apps (such as Zwift) or non-Intensity Minutes compatible devices and upload these to Garmin Connect, you may see a very small number of intensity minutes in your activity details page in Connect for these activities.

This is normal, due to the heart rate still being recorded in the background on your device.

Yep. This is what I got from a 1h20m ride on Tacx a couple of days ago.

I wouldn’t say that’s a “very small number” given the length of the ride I did though.

Any idea why it started working again? I’ve also had it stop recording intensity minutes since maybe the start of the month.

What I have noticed with regard to intensity minutes, which I truly don’t understand, is this:

If I do an activity in Zwift, and record the activity on my Garmin watch at the same time, I will see the intensity minutes in my ride summary in Garmin Connect EVEN IF I DON’T SAVE THE WATCH ACTIVITY. But if I don’t record the activity on the watch, I generally see just a few intensity minutes, or zero.

It seems very odd.

And I’ve found that you don’t even need to record an activity, just use the Broadcast HR function.

It seems that the HRM in your watch has two modes - one for “everyday” monitoring and one for “sports” monitoring.
