Zwift roadmap communication and Wahoo-RGT

Disagree. The thing I like most about RGT is the realistic drafting/pack dynamics. The Zwift “blob” effect annoys me sometimes. I think I said in a different thread, “I want Zwift but with RGT’s physics.”

Peleton making some changes to try and compete

THE BIG IDEA
Peloton

What the heck is Peloton doing?

When Peloton reported earnings last week, it wasn’t exactly pretty.

The connected fitness pioneer reported a loss of $1.2B, a drop in revenue and membership, and higher-than-expected churn.

But CEO Barry McCarthy is optimistic, likening Peloton to a 720-foot cargo ship in the process of making a sharp turn at 27 knots.

So what’s his plan?

Reining in the balance sheet, for starters. Think: layoffs, store closures, and outsourcing manufacturing.

Aside from that, it appears he’s embracing two strategic bets:

  • Increasing accessibility to Peloton by offering a bike rental program for $89/mo., adding new subscription tiers to the Peloton app, and making Peloton content usable with third-party equipment.
  • Cutting costs elsewhere by outsourcing, including a bike with an Ikea-style self-assembly option, and opening up its distribution channels through a partnership with Amazon.

Remember, McCarthy hails from Netflix and Spotify. By sacrificing white glove service and focusing on subscription revenue, he hopes to cut costs and get Peloton’s best asset — its content — in front of more people.

Despite ugly financials…

… there’ve been some bright spots. One Peloton Club, the bike rental program, is on the upswing; subscription revenue actually surpassed hardware revenue; and McCarthy expects to reach break-even cash flow in 2023.

Peloton is also planning to release a rower in time for the holidays. Hopefully, this time, they don’t screw up the marketing campaign.

So whatever happened to the big disruption that we thought would happen when Wahoo acquired RGT? Last time I checked in on RGT it was exactly the same as it’s ever been. The most exciting thing that’s happened on Zwift is the new HED wheels :joy:.

They have no users. The only reason I’m on Zwift is the racing community, and RGT has an even more fragmented and disjointed racing structure than Zwift, with a tiny fraction of the numbers.
I do structured training on Zwift sometimes, but if I wasn’t racing I’d not have a subscription.

there are only so many ways to make the exercises in joe friel’s training bible interesting and other than zoning out while watching the European Curling Championships on eurosport you may as well do them in zwift races and have a town sign sprint to look forward to at the end

I don’t usually watch the Euros, more often the various provincial champs and cash bonspiels…

Think I’d just use GTBike V.

I’m very meh on free riding. Completely over it after the first maybe 5 months on the platform (over 2 different winters)
Until I found racing and a club, had absolutely no intention of using Zwift in between spring thaw and winter freeze.

For structured training I can just control my trainer with a head unit.

Wahoo stupidly pushed up the monthly subs to £13.99pcm (albeit you get access to RGT and SYSTM), at a time when inflation is running way ahead of wage increases. That’s not going to entice many to switch turbo app platforms.

Electricity and gas prices are rising at a silly rate in the UK for those not on fixed contracts, no doubt similar in many countries,

I had a power cut mid ride today so, as annoying as that was, that helped with that a bit!
had to use my phone and my trainer with no power seemed to work ok as a dumb trainer so if things get really bad at least I have a plan B now!

Until Wahoo/RGT have a like for like platform people will dabble back and forth. Zwift still has a very large lead, but if they don’t deliver time and time again, Wahoo will catch up. The last releases and updates to come have me excited for the future for sure, but also hope Zwift pushes out roads, challenges/ missions, settings and improve user requests when applicable.
Zwift has the ability to put the throttle down and I hope they down just that

Has Wahoo/RGT improved since the acquisition?

Never used anything but Zwift, so far, but was wondering what the racing experience is like on other platforms?

They have race radio now. Whether that’s funny or a pain the a** I don’t know.

It looks like things are finally starting to happen over there.

Drafting and paceline riding are much more realistic on RGT… if you can find people to ride with. I’ve never raced on RGT (again, lack of users and events).

If rgt still does not get users then only being uplifted by the complete wahoo system. Then may be just merge rgt and zwift. Keep zwift mostly as is then add rgt existing routes, self made routes, communication, and physics. Then that would the best of the full sim riding programs.

It doesn’t seem like zwift and wahoo are best of friends at the moment so that is very very unlikely!

I tried RGT a few times and didn’t care for it. It’s a wasteland like the other Zwift alternatives, packed with bots, the graphics look worse than Zwift on my equipment, and I found the lack of agency in the physics annoying. So I’m going to stay on Zwift and continue annoying everyone with ride-ons. Vote up this thread for custom routes in Zwift…

a few things.

Custom routes would be great so we can make our own routes in the existing zwift worlds.
Custom routes based on gpx like RGT real worlds would be kinda of be cool but also it does lead to a lot of riders going invisible as they are riding in their own little world.

One thing i thought would be greatif zwift created their own internal custom gpx based route building they could replicated a famous climb or something each week. I’m sure that would be massively popular.

I think many people on RGT (myself very much included) prefer to do their own “group rides” with bots riding at the desired pace (a bit like the Zwift pace partners except it’s all bots), which is why you do not necessarily find too many people in the open worlds. Haven’t had much trouble finding well-attended races either, plus in my opinion the physics make races interesting even if you don’t make it to the pointy end of the race.

It’s unofficial, but check out RoadCaptain:
