Hi all,
not long ago, i was able to choose from 2 different Cat C ranges based on my ZRS.
Racing Zwift unlocked today, i chose the lowest Cat C level (thinking was similar as before) but when i looked in Zwifpower, it shows as Cat D. Second Zwift power, im still a Cat C rider.
im still confused with this, or the former Cat letters dont apply anymore? i thought zwiftpower still the place to go for the results. cheers
4 or 5 months ago you had a ZRS race score which put you towards the top of range 1 Pen C and also towards the bottom of range 2 Pen C. So both Pen C options open to you.
Since then your 5 min pbs of June & July have dropped off your 90 day record and your ZRS has dropped about 50 points. You are now towards the top of range 2 for Pen D or towards bottom of range 1 pen C.

One other thing to add - the letters associated with starting pens used to be usually aligned with the category (pace group) you see on your profile. That was never really the case since the boundaries for starting pens could be customized so that a rider in C pace group might end up in a pen with the letter D or B, but that was not very common before racing score was introduced. Now it’s very common. In your mind you should try to disconnect the letter of a starting pen from the letter associated with a pace group. It’s unfortunate that they didn’t assign numbers to starting pens instead of letters all along but here we are.

thanks, this makes some sense (still a bit complicated)
i understand this dynamic change however if i want to look how im doing in the monthly race in zwiftpower, i cannot see my consolidated points if i switch the different ranges. even thou im allowed to race in that top D and low C, if i select the D results, i wont see the races that i had when i chose the low C range, and so on. I dont know, the category “letter” should be perhaps locked for each month so whaterver you choose to race (where u are allowed to) should count for that Cat letter. the option we have to choose from the race will affect how the results willl be displayed.
The ZRacing GC on ZwiftPower became meaningless after multiple ranges were introduced for those events. You can still look at an overall GC that includes all categories on zwift.com like this: https://www.zwift.com/racing/leagues/zracingsep2025
It’s not very useful. I would just forget about the GC until they make it better.

Thanks Paul, that´s what i was afraid of. i normally take a look at the Zracing GC but i also find weird that the categories are dynamically changing. i totall agree that the ZRS should change depending on performance, but then you find yourself also moving around different GC ranges (e.g 200-300) which doesnt give a sense of how you are doing compared to your peers. anyhow, lets see how long it takes to come up with something consolidated. i really liked the way zwiftpower was built and easy to track …cheers
It’s a trade off between always having the same groups to make a time-based GC easier to manage, and having varying boundaries which makes the racing environment better. You no longer have people stuck at the top or the bottom of a category, people can be the hammer on some days and the nail on others.
The GC was always heavily reliant on the size of the group, so only those racing in a peak periods were able to compete there anyway. Should someone winning each week in slightly slower races really be ranked lower than someone keeping up with the fastest race?
Hopefully zwift put some though into better ways of doing a GC competition when each stage is repeated so many times.
