check in the windows:
Select Windows Update > Update history > Uninstall updates
If you see the latest one “KB5073724” or any other in the latest date?
find it in the list of installed updates and uninstall this one specifically.
This applies if you have administrator rights ofc as CFM says.
I know this issue occurred on Windows 10; I’m not sure whether it also affects Windows 11. The Windows update in question was installed on January 14, 2026.
If similar issues appear on Windows 11 systems, the solution may be different.
Be aware that Microsoft may automatically push this update again, which can cause the Zwift PC app to freeze, requiring a hard reset.
By uninstalling the update, you will miss some security patches. This should therefore be considered only a temporary workaround.
I recommend setting a reminder in your calendar to check the situation later. A future Zwift app update may resolve the issue, at which point you should reinstall the Windows update.
Windows 10 machines are slowly approaching end of life without extended support. Hopefully, Zwift won’t abandon Windows 10 users, as there are still many people enrolled in Microsoft’s Extended Security Updates (ESU) program.
You could extend my ZwiftReady.Wahoo.2026 trial period by a week
Just kidding, but it took me a lot of trial and error to figure this out, at least I hope it helps others.
I have a window 11 and am having the same issue. It was a older windows 10 that I was able to update to windows 11 using flyby11. This morning my pc locked up while Zwift was loading multiple times.
My latest update file was KB5074109, I deleted it in windows update. I was able to get Zwift running again.
I am having the issue of Zwift locking up the computer when trying to load a route on a Windows 10 machine. I have to use hard reset to get the computer to function. On a Windows 11 machine the route loads and I can ride, but the resistance cycles continuously between hard and normal, also the sensing of pedal rotation is very cyclical (no pun intended :-). The speed indication seems to be normal. This all happened only after the mew Zwift update.
Windows 11 with KB5074109 did freeze during startup. Reinstalling Zwift did not work. After i removed the KB5074109, Zwift works again. Motherboard Asus PRIME H610M-A D4.
Windows 11, KB5074109 installed Jan 14th, Zwift Jan 16th + 17th no issues. Cannot say which Zwift version - but I believe there was an update on 16th before starting Zwift session.
Zwift had an update last week - I don’t know which version it is on now, but it worked fine. Some time after the Zwift update, my computer running Windows 11 25H2 installed the 2026-01 Security Update (KB5074109). After that Windows update, my computer freezes while loading Zwift. When I launch Zwift, I first get the typical Zwift Launcher “Welcome!” window. Then when I click on “Let’s Go”, the main Zwift window opens as usual, but then roughly 30 seconds to 1 minute later, during which time the Zwift screen still shows the original cute message, the entire computer freezes and becomes unusable. The screen is still visible, but the computer does not respond to the keyboard or mouse. The hard drive light continues to flicker randomly as if the computer is doing something, but nothing useful apparently.
I tried reinstalling Zwift and checked the computer disk for errors (there were none), There is 37 GB of free disk space. Once I zeroed in on the Windows update as a potential cause, I uninstalled it and, after a reboot, Zwift worked normally again. When I reinstalled the Windows 11 2026-01 Security Update, launching Zwift froze my computer again.
I have again uninstalled the security update so I can continue to use Zwift, but, as Windows points out, doing so puts my computer at risk, so this is only a short-term solution. Is Zwift working on a fix?
In case it is relevant, I use Computrainers with Zwift.
