I have a zwift hub one trainer but I prefer to ride outside and living in Greece that is not hard to do. However, there are, occasionally, more days in a row which are wet and do not make it advisable to ride outside. Those days I prefer to use my trainer and the app. Combining with my very busy schedule I may not ride the trainer more than 20 times a year. However, the subscription running at about 20 €/month is rather too much for my kind of use. Are there any cheaper alternatives?
there are no alternative subscription plans for zwift, there are other platforms such as mywhoosh that are free
Thank yoy very much. I will have a look there.
Also have a look at Rouvy, it’s slightly cheaper than Zwift & let’s you pause your subscription.
12 months Zwift for the price of 10 months - Annual Membership (€200/year).
Still more than enough for 20 rides a year - I would also look for free or cheaper alternatives.
Is Zwift expensive? I once wondered out loud to my accountant wife. Her answer was brilliant. She, in turn, wondered out loud: Zwift costs €200 a year plus the one-time purchase of the smart trainer. Your cycling in real life costs us: A/ expensive bikes (road, mountain bike) that constantly need maintenance. B/ winter and summer clothing, insurance. Glasses, helmets. C/ If you want to cycle in the mountains, it requires an overnight trip hundreds of kilometers from home. D/ power pedals, bike computers, smartwatches, wheelsets, gears, etc. For what you’ve spent on cycling in real life, you could easily spend 100 years on Zwift. No, honey, Zwift isn’t that expensive. ![]()
My opinion is the same - it’s not.
But I answered the question - alternatives for 20 rides a year (€ 10 per ride is not cheap).
The two costs being compared are not alternatives: they are additive. The outdoor gear is a sunk cost. It does not become cheaper because you add on the cost of indoor training.
Insurance for what?
Serious question.
usually your home insurance will cover things like your bikes. I had a friend who’s bikes were stolen off their bike rack at a hotel while on vacation and his home insurance covered the replacement (minus deductable of course).
In Europe your home insurance usually covers your bikes only in your home. I know, because my bike has been stolen in the city - got nothing…
you mean your garage

Unfortunately not…
But for the insurance is everything out of our garden not covered. If you want your bike(s) being covered, you need an extra insurance. Example Austria, 2 Canyon bikes - worth about 3500 and 1500 Euros - one year insurance 120 Euros = 6 month Zwift.
@Paul_Southworth True, but it does get more expensive when you add the extra cost of outdoor cycling. It’s a matter of perspective.
The insurance covers our bikes. Theft, primarily. The insured value decreases annually, but it’s still worth it. In our country, expensive brand-name bicycles are high on the list of criminals.
I have an insurance with no decrease for 3 years - costs extra, of course.
