What is the future?

I finally reached level 100 this morning and after the achievement thought to myself, now what’s next? There are a few longer rides I have to complete yet, but those are really just thoughts now seeing as the XP doesn’t matter so much anymore. The Big Spin isn’t really pulling me in this year either with what is being offered.

Zwift, help me out here.

I have seen some people cancel their account and start a new one and begin from level 0 and very slowly unlock everything (provided it is still available). Not the greatest experience.

How about things like basecamp ride or an officially verified vEverest? There are other difficult challenges you can set yourself that don’t need Zwift to build anything. I’m doing one of those myself - it will take the entire year but will be nice to tick that one off and it is improving my real life riding.

There are also those rebel routes you can try to do, no badges for them but they apply on Strava, assuming you use it. You have to do manual navigation for those which makes them a bigger challenge.

Zwift can do a lot to better gamify biking above and beyond levels, but I guess for the purpose of this inquiry you’re more interested in what would keep motivations within the current zwift context.

I guess that will be individual, what motivated you to use zwift in the first place?

For me I had the following motivation within Zwift:

  1. Get the Tron bike
  2. Get the 100km jersey
  3. Get the 100 mile jersey
  4. Complete all routes
  5. Get the Fire Socks
  6. Upgrade the Tron bike (still doing this - working on stage 4)
  7. Finish the second stage of the factory tour (still doing this)
  8. Complete all stages of all tours (Like Tour De Zwift/Wattopia etc.)
  9. Get the 1200W achievement (still 50W off… ugh, might never happen)
  10. vEverest (might never happen - will start with a half-Everest outdoors this summer)

I was also working on trying to increase some power numbers, but then had a medical setback in January, so those power targets are now somewhat on the backburner with the goal of ‘getting back to where I was before’ being more prominent as a first step.

My other non-gaming Zwift motivation comes in the form of events that I’ve signed up for, and wanting to be in good fitness for those. Though my health issues have put a wrench in those too.

I think of my in-game goals as temporary things. I chased route badges (except PRL full), found enjoyable group rides, chased the Alpe in 60 minutes, tried some racing, did a lot of racing, did 3 hour races, completed Everest challenge, I found a team, I switched from mostly solo races to mostly club ladder, eventually got to level 100 and suddenly XP chasing was pointless but they introduced bike upgrades so I chased that instead, got a “halo” bike, chased upgrading that (not quite done) while also doing the aero socks thing (one more ride to 850 I think). My point is that the motivation comes and goes for different things, and I try to see anything that I’m currently enjoying as purely temporary so enjoy it as much as possible in the moment since it’s not going to be there forever.

As others have said, there are plenty of other things in Zwift to “chase”.

You don’t need Zwift to put out carrots for you to chase.
Make your own goals and set out to achieve them.

If you’ve done all the routes, start a spreadsheet and track riding them again.
Ride the EPIC KOM x number of times in a month/year.
Ride the Alpe x number of times in a month/year.
Ride all the Climb Portals (this will take time since the Climb Portal schedule is only 2 different ones per month)

Ya I have done all of the routes except for few higher distance and elevation. There are a couple badges I still need for achievements that I will still check off. Working on level 2 of my TRON and one last Specialized bike for a HALO.

Been off CL racing for a month because of health, and work will be getting busy so I doubt I will have time to join back up again.

I think I will go through and see what priorities are best, and plan for the year. My renewal is coming up in April so that should give me some time to plan,

Thanks

I like doing all the portals. It is much more than 2 a month.

One in France, 4 weekly challenges and usually ten on Watopia.

I need five weeks to finish the aero socks…finally.

I’m not inclined to get a halo bike, as I don’t want to ride a scrap bike for a month to qualify.

I’ve done various challenges, like orange (lap) jerseys, sprint jersey hunts, and kom pr’s. I have also collected a large number of jerseys for some reason (skipped a few as too ugly).Finding workouts or time trials that work for my goals also keeps me motivated. I like points races but have to do a lot of searching for them.

Same here. Although Route Badges is the one that keeps active and I am looking at.

Some things I will never do, like an Everesting and I gave up getting all jerseys, since a lot of them are clummembers only.

Good point about the weekly challenge Climb Portal.
Although the last couple of months, there has been some overlap with the monthly Climb Portal.

I just did this for more elevation on my Aethos and realized it was my 25th portal for the badge after completing the portal Spring Challenge

I’ve taken the cheaper option & binned Zwift, finishes 7th April, and move on to a different app. I’ve been trying out the others available, Rouvy, real roads with an avatar riding. Kinomap, real roads no avatar. FulGaz, real roads no avatar. They all offer free time before paying, all cheaper than Zwift & they have family options & pause subscription options. I’m off to FulGaz for a few Ironman 70.3 routes. Lovely

Try Big Ring VR

What about ALL Halo bikes, incl. ALL upgrades?

But but, they are ugly …

It is about challenge, not beauty

Ugly is the best thing

I’ve looked at that & I don’t have a good enough setup for it.

So are white cycling shoes…but people still wear them.
