Not really, you should be ok. I haven’t had the issue since the firmware update myself, but I have the unrelated issue of lower power from my kickr v6, just need to carve out time to work with Wahoo.
So long as the watts and cadence drops to zero and stays (especially upon reaching 37 kph, then coasting), all should be well.
My feedback since the firmware update is that it works. No ghost watts or spinny spinny when not actually pedalling. However…
Prior to the update, if I was using a “proper” bike (I.e no virtual shifting) and after spin down… my faveros would be around 0.5 to 1% out. I.e bog on…. Now, whether using virtual shifting or proper bike it’s around a consistent 2.7%-3% difference, with kickr being lower… (Multiple calibrations of pedals and kickr)… think whatever they’ve done they might have overcorrected.
Same exact thing for me. I have yet to try and work with Wahoo, but it’s not as accurate as it should be IMO. I’ll get almost 4% lower in 3-5 minute high power intervals on the Kickr. I’m currently using the pedals for power and cadence because of this.
Ever since you pointed out the free watts issue, I’ve been using my Favero pedals with my Garmin watch, as well as my Bolt computer with Favero.
My kickr move is always 6-8% lower. I’m thinking about putting my Kickr 5, back on and see if there is a big difference.
It doesn’t really matter, but it would be nice to have accurate power numbers.
I got them back immediately after doing sprints Sunday… Thought it was stuffed, couldn’t get it right no matter how much coasting I did… I t corrected itself after a couple of rides. Check my last 3-4 duals
Cheers Josh, I’ll give it another go then switch back to manual shifting for a bit if it doesn’t sort it. It’s just frustrating when you realise in the middle of a race it’s over reading, I wish I could disable autocalibration for now.
I contacted wahoo and got this reply.
This is an issue we are aware of and we have opened an internal ticket with our development team to investigate and resolve the problem.
I’m using duo’s. I’ve also been doing some riding without VS on the past few days, maybe that has something to do with the closer plots… but the ghost watts issue is still relevant. Peter, agree it sucks mid race. Glad mine were between ZWS and ZRL.
On my brief test today, I was unable to replicate the ghost watts - it was a very short test though. Really unfortunate to hear that this continues to impact people.
I took a few minutes and looked at Josh’s dual recordings - no question the issue presented itself on the 11/17/24 ride, then on the subsequent two rides things appeared to normalize. Interestingly, the following day, 11/18 - things looked really good, then on Tuesday (11/19) the Kickr starts to seemingly measure 1-3% lower than the pedals, especially in shorter interval power.
Zwift version. 1.78.0 (1.0.136426) was formally released on 11/12 - but this update happened in a staggered format, so there is variability around when people actually received the game update. It is the most significant change that is known about, so it’s hard to imagine it didn’t contribute to the ghost watts coming back. On the other hand, the Wahoo firmware is more of a mystery - they state a 11/20 release date, but given the automatic update feature, we can’t be sure that directly connected trainers didn’t start receiving that a little sooner.
Not sure what they’re doing with the Core - maybe they’re going to release another update soon.
