Streak and XP Leveling Adjustments [April 2024]

Yes why not? A mile is a mile. XP can be harvested easily in some instances. I did a ride where I got 250 XP for 1 km. over and over again.

Why not, if they rode and the miles and spent the time to earn XP then they earned it.

It’s not rocket science, put everyone at the level they should be for the amount of XP the have earned riding zwift.

That’s not something anyone can just do right now correct? I recall there was an event where people could just keep lapping the finish banner and get XP, but that was probably a bug rather than the design I would imagine.

Most Zwift users (99%) don’t follow this forum. They use Zwift as a workout tool, the gaming part makes it a little more interesting. If they wake up one day and notice they jumped from level 47 to level 67 for apparently no reason and get a bunch of unlocks they’ll likely think the game is broken. Mass confusion for 99% of the users.

Just stop. No more changes. Take a break.

Re-earning my way through levels I’ve already gained the XP for is not in any way fun. It’s insulting and infuriating.

Correct, but that just proves that XP is the wrong way to level up. XP doesn’t reflect the amount of work you have to put in to level up.

But you haven’t done the levels. Just the xp. This is why you have acceleration. Again, not a fan of course cutting. Everyone cycling the course and achieving unlocks is part of the game.

It’s not “course cutting”. I’ve already “done the miles”. I’ve already got the XP. It took me nine years to get the XP. It’s going to take me literally years to get to the level my XP should put me at.

It does not respect my time on the platform. I’ve already achieved the unlocks in terms of cycling the distance required to get them. Zwift have prioritised levels over XP because they think that is more “fun” (as I said, for me it is not), but the real issue is that in nearly a decade they haven’t managed to come up with an evergreen system.

And I suspect they now never will come up with an evergreen system which can ever correct the mess they have put themselves in.

Please make level 100 the top and final level and for me let’s all get there, eventually, under these ‘final’ levelling up rules.

If Zwift wants to recognise longevity, miles ridden or XP earned introduce a new prestige system and put everyone immediately where they should be within this new prestige system.

A prestige system would be evergreen.

This doesn’t respect the effort people have put in already.

You know what cutting the course is, that’s resetting everyone from whatever XP they had to 500,000XP then making them “earn” that XP again. That was insulting.

I lost 332,000XP from that. Then had to “earn” back what was taken away from me over a long time of riding with lots of hours spent.

I’m almost 1.6m XP at the moment with a theoretical level 110 (I was counting) and near 68,000km and 547,530m+ - so I have not been taking any shortcuts to achieving that. My only pause was for a year where I crashed and couldn’t ride or walk. If I didn’t have that I would have been far more kilometres outside on a real bike and on Zwift.

So let’s see your levels, distance, elevation and XP (include any previous accounts under a different or former names) since you are so insistent that these veteran Zwifters are so badly taking shortcuts.

Very low level (according to companion app)

Excellent post, Chris :+1:

I don’t really care abut XP and levels, but you’ve nicely laid out the case for how Zwift have royally f–ked it up and how that causes tensions btwn those who have already been f–ked over and those who have yet to be f–ked over.

Whats fun about leveling? In the beginning maybe when you get unlocks like better bikes and access to more routes. But getting a pair of new socks dont bring much celebration to me. After level 50 I think the goal for most people that care about levels are to get to the top level.

For me running a maraton is no fun. Completing a maraton is. But when I run a maraton I would like to run 42 km. Not 50-55 km.

I would just say that anyone with banked XP should just be put at the level that corresponds with the amount they have.

Alice, in this case I don’t see it as course cutting. It’s a case of people that have already put a lot of miles in on Zwift and have actually earned the requisite XP to get to level 100 (in some cases much more) but having to wait due to a system that seems to punish long time users and reward late adopters. In my case, when this change was made in December, I’d been Zwifting since 2017 and had over 100,000 km and 2.1M XP. But I was also in a period where various other commitments forced me to slow my riding a bit. So for a long stretch there, I was seeing people with much less time and effort invested in Zwift getting to higher levels… which to me sort of looks like a shortcut. I eventually made level 100 recently, but the whole experience has put a bad taste in my mouth. Anyway, I think if a rider has actually earned the XP to be at certain level, they should be placed there, instead of having to wait and continue grinding.

This is a fitness game, not a savings account. Play the game. Accelerated leveling is your reward as a long time user. Skipping levels means you don’t want to play the game.

It and other similar programs aren’t games, they are a way of keeping the legs moving during the winter months, when its not possible to get outside due to rubbish weather conditions

This is a dispute that can’t be resolved because it’s both. It’s different for different people. Anyone who thinks it’s a game probably cares about XP and levels. Anyone who thinks it’s not a game probably doesn’t and has no reason to be in this discussion.

It’s kind of a game but levels are nothing worth caring about, but being critical of bad decisions and worse messaging is plenty of reason to be in this discussion.
