I have raised this before but apparently Zwift is a game first and foremost hence why they spend a lot of time on silly things.
Is this a late April fools joke?
This does not make any sense.
So people already on 100 would have done a lot less work to get to 100 then people at level 90 now would have to do to get to level 100?
The move to 100 was already bad so that people with less riding hours and km are at higher levels.
Why not rather create levels to 120 and fix the system with the next 20 levels.
I guess the reason I’m OK with the change is I don’t assign any status to the levels in terms of comparing myself to other people and thinking about how hard someone else worked, I just like the challenge of working toward a new level, and when it got easier it became less interesting. Some people like easy games, some people like harder games.
I think it is bit sad you listened or are willing to listen to a minority of vocal complainers who think everyone should suffer as much as they did.
And now they got a almost free ride to level 100 while the others where they were complaining about have double the xp to do that they had too.
I was on a goal to reach level 100 by the end of the year and that was a goal I could manage. Yes, it meant cycling a lot for a year but it was worth it. Adding two years to that kills my motivation to cycle more. Means I will only be Zwifting less since I wont be bothered anymore to level up.
Whilst I’m not sure what you class as silly things, the actual time spent on April Fools etc… Is minimal compared to the overall development of the app.
Some people may think of Zwift as a game but the fundamental reason why Zwift was created hasn’t changed .
Whilst there’s some gamification involved at it’s core is a training aid.
What was your plan after you reached level 100? You’d have no motivation left, so you’d just stop cycling?
I don’t think that is what he meant, one set a goal and work towards it, once you reach set goal you set another.
Now Zwift moved the goal post for some but not for other riders that seem wrong.
Keeping Level 100 at 591,000 XP and then making level 101 = 1,000,000 XP. would have make a lot more sense.
At the start of this season my goal was to get the fire socks (L50). Then Zwift updated how levels worked, and L50 was way too easy a goal (given how fast leveling is I went from L46 to L67 in a few months, so I shifted the goal to moving to L100 by the end of the year. Now with the new XP system I’ll need to see what the deltas are for the various steps in levelling size, and probably create a new goal for the rest of the year.
All that to say, if your goal was 100 and now that is not achievable due to the way leveling has changed you can always re-assess the goal to find one that is possible, and more motivating etc.
And that would’ve made getting to 101 a heck of an accomplishment. Worthy of confetti socks even.
I really hope you’re right about this being a joke (though not a particularly funny one).
Obviously I know he’s not going to stop cycling next year, that’s not what I meant. It was a rhetorical question for him to consider what would have happened after he achieved his goal.
It’s not
Sorry but I had to fix that statement for you.
I need goals to stay really active indeed. If there were no more goals to chase I would probably cycle a lot less indeed. But I am also pretty sure that when enough people reach level 100 Zwift comes with more levels.
Objectively wrong
Cant think of much more goals to be honest in Zwift. Done all routes, got all badges, won a race.
It would have been a lot better if they kept it this way and made new levels to entertain all of us. Make level 101 to 105 with 50k XP needed a level and 106 to 110 needs 100k XP a level. That way we all need to do the same and not have some given an easy ride to whatever level.
Sorry but the proposed changes to levelling again are bonkers. So people who got to level 100 under the current system will have got there much more easily than new people? And those of us who were way off that but still had a bunch of our XP put into a “bank” where it is doled out very gradually will presumably have yet another complication to further try and wrap our heads around?
Bonkers.
Since you’re never going to please everyone, why not at least give people the choice of whether they want to level immediately to where their xp (including previous banked xp) will take them,.or whether they want slower levelling?
I used to see people at level 50. Which really impressed me. Made me push hard trying to get there.
Then that changed to 60. Again, I admired all the work riders did to get there.
I was so happy when they said they had opened it up to level 100. UNTIL I seen they were rolling the xp back to 591000xp. What a slap in the face to all the people that worked really hard to get to level 60.
You are the perfect example. You have been on here for 5 minutes, and you think you accomplished something. You say if they change to 1 million xp, you will lose motivation. It should give you more.
I don’t mind working really hard to achieve a goal. Then I can feel proud that I accomplished it. I guess you would rather do 59.1% of the work. Then want people to think you did 100% of the work. JMO
But it doesnt motivate me to see a goal going from a few months to a few years. I guess it will mean another 200k xp for me to get to level 100. Thats 10.000 kilometer extra.
That is not motivating at all. I will only make me reconsider my membership, certainly in the summer or try other cycling platforms. And I am pretty sure that is not what Zwift wants.
still unclear on this
will someone who currently has 591,000 XP be level 100 on the new scheme or whatever level 591,000 XP would get them on the revised bandings?
