Streak and XP Leveling Adjustments [April 2024]

That’s OK, they don’t even know how it works at Zwift

Time to ditch the silly banking and place everyone at their correct level for their accumulated XP

Yeah, I’m somewhat surprised if they’ve revamped XP but kept all the banked XP aspect again after all that feedback. It’s confusing, and people with the same amount of XP can be at wildly different levels depending on when they got that XP.

I’ve had a lucky string of great weather and haven’t done an indoor ride in a few weeks, so I don’t actually know what the current situation with my level is yet

I think this just went from bad to worse :man_facepalming:

So best I can tell Eric has updated this article as it looks like the new lvl 100 is 807k vs the December version in this article he hasn’t updated yet at 591k

I have over a million 1.02m xp and at lvl 96. My banked xp somehow now disappear at lvl 98 go figure .

I’m all for just put me at the right lvl get rid of this banking stuff . When I first started riding I enjoyed because everyone was on the same playing field . I also was rather relieved when I reached the top level as I didn’t feel like I had an xp rabbit to chase .

Now it’s completely meaningless and a big mess because everyone’s 100 / 50 / 25 are completely different and depend on when they earned it because the scaling changed.

I recognize my privilege and luck as being not badly hit as many folks have just been with the changes and I empathize with you for what has happened . We all deserve better in execution, communication and thoughtfulness .

Any chance you can share more specifics as the revised system seems to have been launched?

@Jon , @shooj A while back you said you would announce a new system for leveling up. You said you would listen to feedback. Now the change has been made, with apparently no announcement. Is it to big of an ask to announce what the new system is before launch? Or at least shortly after? Did you listen to feedback? Many of the comments stated that banked XP was confusing people. I and a few others suggested just putting people at a level based on their current XP… level straight up to the level based on whatever scale you chose. You seem to have settled on 20,000 XP per level, which seems pretty reasonable. Could you just push us to whatever that level woud be based on our current XP?

That is how it should have been handled, but people were convinced and argued strongly that this was bad - and those who proposed it didn’t understand that banked XP was part of being a game and people enjoy the game.

Looks like a lot of annoyed people again.

Things just aren’t going to change no matter how many people say the same thing. About a month ago I stopped using Zwift. I get the same benefits with another cycling app which is also more interesting.

Yes @Eric_Schlange_ZwftIn definitely updated the xp/level article. You’d think with such a major change he’d have made a post about it, unless ZHQ told him not to. Weird.

I’m surprised this entire thread hasn’t been deleted. Poof!

Working on a post about it, actually. Lots of irons in the fire over here.

Does it include an explanation for why ZHQ said they were delaying the change indefinitely, and then implemented it with no warning, and then after a week refuse to say a single word about it?

i’m gonna guess it does not

It includes this lovely graphic I just made…

zwift rarely, if ever reply to negative stuff

It’s the overwhelming sense of disappointment of being let down again by Zwift that stings.

They’ve made a mistake, and Zwift’s silence speaks volumes. I reported my first observation of an XP change in the 1.69 update thread on Thursday and today is Tuesday. Plenty of others have chimed in now too, here and elsewhere. Not even an acknowledgement from Zwift.

Eric Min said that they are listening to the community. How are we supposed to trust when you are unable to make a clear statement about a silent change in a release that impacts many customers?

Very poor, Zwift. Do better.

THIS.
The whole story is an insult to the community’s intelligence.

I find the whole controversy around XP completely exaggerated. Some Zwift enthusiasts are getting lost in this issue. From my perspective, only the following information is needed to assess a Zwift rider’s performance:

  • How many kilometers a Zwifter has completed in total/year/month/week
  • How many meters of elevation a Zwifter has completed in total/year/month/week
  • How much time a Zwifter has spent riding in total/year/month/week
  • What kind of power a Zwifter produces (w/kg), with the existing classification into A/B/C/D being sufficient
  • Does the Zwifter race? The existing race score is good but could be further optimized

The whole XP story is completely unnecessary and sets the wrong incentives. Zwifters ride only with RoboPacers to generate more XPs or take short climbs in the Climb Portal. It’s all nonsense. Just remove the XPs, and the only thing missing from my above overview is a representation of time/km/elevation gain over the course of the year.

100%. Zwift completely taking their user base for granted. If/when there is credible competition that values it’s customers, Zwift are gone. It feels at times they enjoy upsetting their customers.
