Remember we are still in trial phase things are still changing. The more events you do will help improvements.
i’m not sure what they are doing with DNFs but i would try encourage you to finish races as it gives more data as if there are outliers in the ZRS score i’m sure they will be highlighted.
To be fair, I also read your other post as saying you were scared of being dropped on the hill.
But you’ve explained it well. At the moment there is a big spread of ability in each pen, and also a big overlap between pens. We know how few zPower riders were required to ruin the dynamics of races. If there are people in the race able to produce high power for relatively low effort they can and will shut every attack down. It means there is no viable tactic for much of the pack other than hanging on as long as possible.
I have faith that, given enough time and races, the scores will level out and the system will be better. But I’m not sure if people will be patient enough for that to happen unless the seed scores can get closer to the mark.
I am pretty sure Zwift can see I got dropped after 2 minutes by A+ riders being a just to B promoted rider and can have a good guess as to why I DNF’d
But the DNF are a problem I agree and than more on how to deal with them. You cant ‘reward’ them with a lower point cause people will use that to lower their ZRS score but adding points is also a tough choice to make. And I dont know if it affects other riders, so that might also be a difficult point.
If i knew which event yes but not gone hunting but i agree if you are against A riders pushing you will struggle
I wasn’t thinking of DNF as a problem more in that i’m not sure how zwift are looking at results.
People that get dropped asap either DNF or carry on but finish way behind i’m not sure if zwift are actively looking at the number of DNFs. i hope so as if DNFs are higher than CE races if would indicate more work needs done.
I got dropped so hard by A and A+ riders it wasnt even funny. Think I managed 2km in my zone 6 and zone 7 to hang on for dear life but it was pointless.
Yes in the calculation I might be matched against them since my sprint is better but what good does a sprint have if you are dropped after 2km …
In the current cat system I basicly do any race there is but with the new system and the new cats I will be skipping anything with a hill in it. and when riders find out they have no chance at all and will get dropped a lot might not even enter the races anymore that dont suit them. I for one wont even try this weeks Zwift Labs Race on Casse since it is pointless for me to try.
Maybe you’re missing the point of ZRS. It’s result based ranking, it’s goes up and down. Yes the seed score may not be 100% accurate as it based off historical data and riders may not have put in a hard 10m effort or even 30s to the matter. BUT the whole point is if you do well your score goes up, but if you do badly it goes down until you find your place among similar abilities. If you chose not to race where you will do badly or DNF due to doing badly in a race the system will never lower your score. Not every race should be Z2 ending in a sprint.
How soon can we get this out in the world and remove the reference to A/B/C/D as that is what half the problem is - People associate themselves with a specific category and that will continue to hold this back as they compare against categories.
Comparing power from one set of races categories to another wont work - If you race in B/C/D the 5/20 min power will only go so high in each category as racers wont break the category limits - So you get these artificial ceilings that people claim is their max effort.
With no boundaries and racing different types of racers, people are going to have to work beyond the artificial power ceiling they are used to. To get to the line to use that big sprint, people will now have to work for it rather than sit in Z2 all race.
Its a good change a) results driven seeding & ranking is much needed, B) the mix of racers changes racing dynamics and that is probably the better change of the 2.
From what I could tell from one ZRS race on Casse Pattes, there is no reason to do any work on the Aqueduc KOM beyond staying somewhere near the leaders. I completely trusted the pack to get back together and I was not disappointed. I attacked after the last flattish section on Petit KOM but perhaps should have gone a little earlier. I let the group go as slow as they wanted up most of Petit KOM, which was pretty slow in my race. I was one of the stronger riders in the D group, so I had the privilege of making those choices, and most of the 9 who got to the finish together were CE low B riders like me with no sprint, which seems to explain why we are seeded so low. The sprint was humorously weak from all.
Unless I’ve missed it, there has still been no confirmation that the baseline power seeding score can increase once a racer has completed five Racing Score races.
It surely has to, otherwise racers can complete five Racing Score races taking it relatively easy and then unleash their true potential.
I’m a bit baffled why racers with more than five finishes in the last 90 days have to complete five Racing Score races in order to get changes based on the results in those Racing Score events.
Essentially, those first five Racing Score races are simply confirming your current power ability and nothing more.
But if you have done 5+ races recently, you already have a power seeding score.
This has been a problem with ZP, CE, and even vELO categories and I asked in the prior thread but never got an answer. When you get to the top of a category you plateau and can beat up on the group with minimal effort and almost nothing will push you over the line.
Theoretically with ZRS you can flex the ranges around which would mostly mitigate it, but we can be pretty confident that ZHQ will keep the ranges for their races pretty static based on what they’ve done in the past. Is there any mechanism to deal with this issue?
completely different race experience, which on this route is largely dictated by having good sustained power relative to the others. With that route profile, the favored rider will likely be in that category because they have best-in-pen sustained power and a poor sprint (because if they had a good sprint and good sustained power they would be in the next higher category).
Community race organisers can obviously set different boundaries, but your right zwift need to lead with the varying boundaries to ensure growth is seen…
So Zracing has different boundaries to ZRL, to different other series - or even boundaries change month to month for Zracing.
If your racing score is not going to drop below your seed score, will seed scores be re-assessed over time. Just wondering because completing races where your racing score does not move down because it’s never moved from your seeding score means it’s going to be rather dull racing when your out the back all the time and unable to make any impact on your racing score. Or will groupings based on seed score be re-adjusted?
