Racing Score updates [July 8 2024]

If you go to your activities you can see what the changes are after each race in Results of each race…but the change of your Seed Score is related also to the changes in your Power PB’s. That part you can’t track at the moment.

Agree - similarly I will not be skipping crit city races. I’m not going to win, but can I engineer something to make it last of a group of 5 vs last of group of 20. If I fail, still last in group of 20 or roll in 20th just off back…

Cause I am afraid that is what will happen.

There are plenty of other things to do on Zwift that might be more usefull than coming last in a Zwift race and/or get dropped in a 35km race after a few kilometers.

I really think a lot will think like that after it has happened a few times.

Yep see it. Only gained 5 points for 3rd place…. 11 to go for next cat up

As a heavy, more powerful rider with a decent sprint, I’m probably in the category I should be. But it seems like there is an abundance of people like you who are a category too low in the race with me. So instead of being able to use my power to break away, I’m on my limit just to hang on.

As more race results move the scores to where they should be, maybe kicked on by a change in the seed score calculation, this should even out. But for now it’s tough everywhere.

Because it’s no fun riding around alone on a race course. If I wanted to do that I would do a workout or just ride alone. My racing score is currently 558 - presumably because of my sprint power. But my mediocre 10/20-minute power (3.5 and 3.3, respectively - mid-upper C at best) guarantees that I’ll be dropped by the 4.0-4.5 w/kg Cat B/A riders the moment the road turns upward for more than about 60 seconds. Sadly, I don’t have the raw power to “leave the climbers behind”, so the only real option will be to not race a significant number of the courses out there.

Without doubt I am putting the cart ahead of the horse re: TTT game mechanics. Mostly I wanted to get the thoughts out of my head and into the universe in the hopes that it might help breathe them into existence someday.

Ride on!

Hopefully the promised changes to seed score take into account longer power, or at least de-emphasize sprint power. Because the way it stands, as a strong-ish cat C sprinter I feel like I’m seeded too high (my races now are always against A and high B riders). So I may very well stay roughly at the same Racing Score I started with.

Sure, those high FTP/low CP30 riders will eventually get bumped up and (hopefully) into the next pen. But when they take a summer break from Zwift their score will drop and they’ll be right back in Oct/Nov. Same with occasional racers that don’t race 5 times in 90 days. Same with new high FTP/low CP30 riders. They’ll all get to go up and down in racing score. But I (and other heavier sprinter types) won’t - we’ll just end up hovering at or near our racing score in perpetuity.

While the possibility of a new racer entering the lowest pen and blowing it up is a very real possibility, the scenario tends to have a low frequency.
There just isn’t that many racers to begin with and there are very few new racers.
Most of the "wolves in sheep clothing " are repeat offenders and have previous but out of date race data
Zwift could use race data from the past 2 years for racers with no 90 day data.
The first up to date race would be the new race data.
I would make no exceptions for health issues for the first race.
Race the race and the system can place you in the correct pen for the 2nd.
I’d rather have 1 person dropped in a higher pen than have a whole pen dropped by a historically strong rider.

Yup. Or two.

We’re not talking about chase races or mass-start free-for-alls but groups launched from individual pens who can’t see and/or influence each other.

Happened in about half the C ZRacing events I did. Back to B so I don’t get to do it anymore.

people have been thinking that already. for some years now. maybe not you personally

This is also the experience for a lot or riders right now. We can’t always been in the front group all the time.

It might be fun but that is the biggest problem with CE it’s the same riders winning week after week. Give the race a try you might surprise yourself.

So you will only race if you can win.

This is the exact reason for ZRS, to stop serial winners sitting at the top of a category they are better than.

don’t everyone only enter to win haha

it’s not schools sports day where everyone gets a medal

@shooj @Ryy Lots of feedback and questions, be good to get thoughts… especially on the most important question … mine!
Can we get an idea when you will be tweaking the seed scores please please please

I am with @Lee_H Lee and others on this, the race is a workout (better race=better workout to me). I do agree it is a issue however but we should sort out the ‘how and why’ before we worry about the ‘when and if’ we race.
Right now a lot of people seem (not saying this is your point of view) to think they should win or at least have a chance to win a race… that is ridiculous?
I mean i loose my S**t when I am off the back with people who refuse to help because ‘race craft’ says they should save energy to maybe get one place up on me rather than work!! Its a work-out the race is done ffs lets goooooo!!!

where did I say that ?

I said I am afraid for certain races/routes there will be people who might not sign in with the ZRS score. That might get evened out by newer people who start racing but I doubt the last. Only 10% of all Zwifters race so we are already a very minority. And if that gets even less on some routes it isnt good for us all. Or race organizers take the same routes every time where most of the riders have a chance since that will attract the most riders. I do like Rollin Highlands, but we have seen that map way too ofter already.

I am more than happy to finish 40th if the race is fun. With the new ZRS the gaps between riders in cats is even bigger than in the CE cats and imho that is a problem.

For me that was the number 1 problem we had and it has only gotten worse. The gaps were to big and have only gotten bigger.

and yes, I know. I was one of those riders who won a lot in C cat so I know the idea behind it. I have been promoted to B last month but am still having fun although I know I will not win any race in the forseeing future. But in the ZRS Test Races I have been dropped after 5km and riding alone for 30km isnt my idea of a fun race, so those races I will not enter anymore. And I do around 250 races a year. And if I feel that way, perhaps more do that and that is what makes me worry, we have plenty of races already with too few entries. It looks to me that with these changes we need to specialize more for the terrain/routes or be cannonfodder.

Andother funny thing that I hear a lot is : ‘you won everything with CE, so now you just have to adapt and get better and tougher’.

But that is such a stupid argument.

If that was the case we didnt need any changes at all. We could have just said to the people whom I was beating to get better and tougher.
