Meetup Speeds Incorrect with Small Groups (46km/h or 28mph)

Same thing again here in a 2 people meetup, with me riding a workout, the distance of the meetup fixed to 50km. Can this obvious bug finally be fixed? The phenomenon is pretty clear and reproducible, hence a programmatic fix should be easy to do??? It is really embarrassing also on Strava with the KOMs…

Ulf.

Hi,

During meetups, it very often happens that the speed locks at 46km/h uphill. It happened at ventoux and today already 3x in wattopia during the mega pretzel. Please fix it! Also the uphill m are wrong on strava afterwards! It’s annoying!

Meetup settings: keep together. No other riders.

We are all using proper smart trainers.

Thanks,
Gt

Here’s some proof of the awful truth :frowning:

Yup, had this experience on a 2 person meetup on 2/6 on the Big Loop. Flying up the Epic KOM at 25 mph. Couldn’t go faster than 29 mph descending. Doing a constant 29 mph everywhere else. Very annoying. Contacted tech support yesterday. their solution? End the meetup and start another! WTH?? Clearly this is not anew bug. Why haven’t they fixed it?

Just saw this happen again today. Riders going up Volcano KOM at 28mph. Sub 5 minute KOM. It’s crazy that this bug has existed for multiple years now.

I wonder how the forum categories are supposed to work in these cases? Using this as an example, if it’s not moved to the “Known Issues” sub-forum, does that mean it’s not being looked at for fixing? Only if that happens has it been that Zwift has acknowledged the problem?

@shooj can you verify if Zwift is working to resolve this issue?

If you don’t feel confident that the issue still persists, have a look at e.g. the “Temple KOM from Fishing Village Side ” segment of Makuri Island as I posted further up this thread. The first few pages of that leaderboard is covered by people experiencing this bug
(actually, just look at any climb except AdZ, and you’ll discover that the KOM always has a speed nearby 46 km/h…)

@anderfo
I’ve bumped the ticket on this to the team it’s assigned to. Apologies for this being unresolved for so long.

I have noticed that this tends to happen if people join the banded meetups late. I’m not sure if that’s the cause, but I don’t tend to see the speed glitch with meetups where everyone is on time. Today had someone join late and had the speed glitch. Might be happenstance though! @shooj any updates from your end by chance?

5 person meetup Today in France (not a guest works)
No late joiners.
There was a recent update, so everyone wasn’t 100% sure they had the recent update.

Trying to track down the true cause(s)

This morning I arranged a 2h meetup with my son on Alpe. For reasons unknown to us we only needed 16min to get up even if our watts and w/kg were normal.Once on the top we were flagged for super human effort and that warning triangle seems to be stuck on both our accounts.

Since our watts and w/kg were normal I think there is a bug in zwift. Please DM for details on our meetup and ride.

When will this be fixed?

I know people are seeing this problem in different situations but the group I ride with has been seeing this for a long time and can recreate it on most of our rides.
We do Meetups with Keep Everyone Together turned on.
We do a timed ride rather than distance which probably is not part of the trigger. We set the time for longer than most people want to ride.
When people start quitting the meetup the ‘boost mode’ normally kicks in. Most of the time it kicks in when the count of remaining riders is 2. If someone joined the Meetup late it often kicks in with 3 left in the Meetup. Sometimes the boost allows the speed to slow on the up hills and sometimes it continues to push us at or near 29 mph up hill. ‘Boost Mode’ will continue until the Meetup is over or an additional person leaves the Meetup.
When in boost mode, on the downhills, if you pedal your max speed is 29 mph, if you coast you can go faster.

Update (09/08/2022):
Tonight, we got the boost as we often do. It started when people started leaving the Meetup. We went from 7 to 4. It was triggered when one of the last 4 stopped pedaling for a few seconds and then resumed. All 4 were doing 29 mph except up the hills. It did not matter what our power output was.

how is this issue not fixed yet?
just had a meetup with one other person.
im at 3.7w/kg @ 260 and they’re at 2.5w/kg at 150w
46km/hr never changed

i was hosting meetup on apple TV
also i swapped from a mountain bike to a tron bike in the waiting area and on their screen i was still on the mountain bike the entire time

I’ve seen this same thing a couple of times recently. Last week 3 of us riding at 2w/kg @160w managed to ride 24 miles in 60 minutes. On my own I’d expect to ride 18 miles at a push in the same time.

This week 2 of us riding at 1.5 w/kg we’re doing 29mp/h and a 3rd rider was doing 4w/kg and only 20mp/h (hard limit) and we easily pulled away.

I’m hoping that someone at Zwift picks up this thread now as something isn’t right with meet-ups right now.

Not fixed… I just had it happed on a two person meetup today 1/7/2023.

Hi @Darren_Freeman_TeamE

Welcome to the forum

I don’t see an activity for 1/7/2023 :frowning:

Did one of the riders late join?

I hide the ride. For the majority of the Meetup ride my friend was with me and speed was pegged at 29mph. After they left and I was still in the meetup and speed dropped to normal.

Also, what defines late? A minute… two… five… I waited until they joined and we rode off together a couple minutes after the meetup started.
