Landscape Companion App

…can’t believe that landscape mode isn’t implemented in he companion app…!!!

For anyone coming to this thread, in leiu of Zwift officially making landscape orientation for the Zwift Companion app possible, there are 3rd party apps (at least for android, available in the Google play store) which are able to (force) control screen orientation. Do your research and download at your own risk, but at least those with tacx holders have a work around for now :+1:

I really hope you’re working on this. I don’t use the companion app whilst riding as my tablet holder doesn’t hold a phone or a tablet in portrait mode. I just don’t understand why you don’t implement this.

this still works:

Still pretty unusable during a workout. For some reason you can scroll down to see the rest of the screen (works on other tabs , Zwifters for example) which cuts out probably the most important features of the workout screen, the ERG on/off button and the Bias button.

It really seems absurd that such a basic feature is STILL not implemented, 4 years after initial request (this thread at least). Makes most tablets and the really well built Tacx mount (any mount for that matter, I can’t see why anyone would mount a tablet in portrait orientation) useless.

(Yet) another vote for a landcape mode in Companion. I’ve finally got round to buying a Quadlock handlebar mount for my trainer bike, having previously laid the phone on the shelf next to my trainer. It never entered my head that the app would be portrait-only, seems daft.

So since at least 2018, this has been a feature request from Zwift users, and it still isn’t addressed by Zwift! WTF?

This can’t be that hard to code. I want to be able to use my iPad to run Zwift Companion at times, but as ZC only loads in Portrait Mode, I can’t.

Zwift? Are you listening? Don’t you care about us? We pay a monthly fee to be part of Zwift. Our voices should be listened to.

While I would love to have the ZC app in landscape mode, also, I am curious why you “can’t” use your iPad for ZC because it is in portrait. I use my iPad for ZC regularly, and in portrait mode.

@Nigel_Tufnel as stated multiple times, throughout this thread, over the course of four (!) years, cycling specific tablet holders, i.e. Tackx’ solution, are landscape only. Rendering the ZC app into a steaming pile of manure.

OK, so then you’re also posting on the Tacx forum and asking for a tablet holder that rotates 90 degrees, right?

upvote from me. Would like to use the iPad pro with companion app on the WattBike Atom. Use full screen from windows laptop for the main app on a large display. The IOS app is not very useful on tablet.

@Nigel_Tufnel I see what you did there. Well played. But no. Because every. Single. Other. App I use when on the bike (Netflix, TrainerRoad, RGT, Wahoo Fitness, Tacx, and even the Zwift’s very own game app) work in landscape mode. This is a Zwift Companion App shortcoming. Not a tablet holder issue.

Don’t want to be a real pain but I find using IPad CA in portrait quite easy but then I don’t have a bike fixing tablet holder.

Also just tried to watch Netflix and found it annoying that I couldn’t watch it in Portrait.

I suppose we are all looking for different things.

BUT of course if everything worked in both portrait and landscape I’m sure that would be best and get my vote.

+1 for landscape mode on Android
There are workarounds such as (1) splitting the landscape screen between two apps to get the companion app in portrait on one half of the screen, (2) using the pop-up mode of some android versions to get a small portait app on a landscape screen or (3) installing an app that can force the landscape mode. But really this should be native to the app (ideally with two tabs side by side).

Id like landscape mode on tablets to be better than portrait mode on phones. There is much more screen space so you could have two pages side by side - map and workout screen at the same time for example.

+1,000,000 - much more useful in landscape and many holders won’t go as tall as portrait for a tablet.

Much appreciated if this will be supported.

Easy typing and enough real estate to show information simultaneously (map and workout information for example).

Usefulness and popularity are not mutually exclusive. (Assuming above comment was not sarcastic)
