Is there a light at the end of the tunnel?

I’m not judging it. This sounds hostile so I’m out.

I do wish though that Indie allowed us to use our on-bike powermeters so we can have more easily achieved direct apple-apples comparisons to our IRL outdoor rides. It seems to mandate that you have to use the smart trainer’s powermeter.

I was a little surprised by the response you got. Your post seemed quite reasonable and didn’t warrant the reply you got.

Both the power meter and the trainer power are stored in the fit file. There’s a feature request in to choose which one is sent through to Strava, but that’s best discussed over on the IV discord.

I think it’s a fair reply to this statement, although maybe it comes across a bit sharp.

Considering Chris hasn’t actually used it yet.

But then reviews are probably best placed elsewhere than the zwift forums, all things considered. There’s a lot of Stockholm syndrome.

**** wind, virtual or otherwise. but i like all the other stuff. good luck to them

I did a short ride on IndieVelo, felt just like Zwift. So that’s good. Wahoo connected fast and world loads up very quick. This on a very old laptop with an stock, onboard graphics card. But - understandably - the route scenery was sparse (they will obviously build on this, but first step is getting good riding).

However, I then went into an elimination race. Wow, that was fun! Think it was a 400m oval track, with the last person eliminated from the race.
Now, the beauty of the above was that there were about 100 riders. But then, we were split into groups of 20 based on our “rating” (the ELO rating). As it was my first race, I was in the bottom split (with other new or low rated riders).

I’ve experienced the ELO rating elsewhere (driving sim called iRacing) and it does work extremely well for getting you to the rating where the others around you are of similar skill / level.
Chess is obviously the other main example of ELO in use, which works as well as anything.

Were they real riders? I’ve seen a couple of YouTube videos and I think most of the riders in the races must have been bots (ie very anglo names for riders from very non-anglo countries)

Absolutely - DO NOT ever suggest my win was because of fixed AI.

Only joking … I did decide to break away with a couple of laps left (about 1.2km left) and none seemed to react to me (with 3 or 4 other riders left) . 2 and 3 stayed together as you see from the timings. Now, maybe they thought I’d burn out, maybe they were knackered, or maybe it was AI.

That said, does show HR for everyone.

But I did feel my 1.2km push was a little too easy. Of course, I was in the bottom split (pen 6 out of 6) so who knows what the level of my opponents were. ELO rating will sort that side of things out after a couple of races, then Im going to be clumped with riders of similar ability.

Yep the majority are likely bots. They’re smart bots though - that have CP profiles, phenotypes and racing styles.

The number of bots should reduce as more people take up the beta. I like the idea of a race simulation or training option where an individual can race against just bots if they are actually smart. Also where you can have a team of bots supporting you, and a bot DS giving you info. Hmm … maybe I’m a bot and angling to keep my job?

Where did you find this?

I would suggest nothing is going to satisfy you on Zwift. I have been using it for five years and still much prefer it to going out side in the winter and riding the same boring roads I’ve ridden for the last 20 years. Each to his own.

Mt Fuji would be a good portal climb.
