Personally, I like the current volcano route but expanding it a few kilometers out to sea would be nice to, make it a 10 km loop. Then it would be easy for people to choose their distance. One person asked for a 56 mile course, that’s 90 km or 9 laps would make it perfect!
As another thread states (please support) Zwift could create an authentic Marathon to Athens Greece course that would make the perfect true Marathon course. Some said a 13.1 mile out and back course would be sweet. then, by all means biathlon away on Zwift.
There are many different distances that various people would want but with all the differnt intersections and options that a world like watopia have we could make any distance loop or route.
Thanks, yes since swimming isn’t available. However, my mistake would probably be a huge success, even ride a mountain bike and shoot targets Penalty laps and all. Luv that I wasn’t even thinking of skiing and yet it would be so awesome too Zwift on a NordicTrack.
Totally agree, cyclist can train on the actual routes they will race on, however Triathlons cannot, I am disappointed.
Its not as simple as go out and due 112 miles, its the climb and the types of climbs and how often they are disbursed over the 112 miles, also may Iron man races are laps.
Totally agree many tri clubs member would like this option very much, Even if there was some comparable course I would be very happy with that, if anyone out there can suggest a comparable route currently on zwift for
UK Vitruvian man half
Florida Full.
I would be very grateful, as some one who really needs every min of the full 17 hours
Why the incessant want for flat courses? There are plenty of flat roads already, and plenty of IM courses have everything from rolling roads to mountains.
If you are that desperate for flat roads turn the trainer difficulty down to your hearts content.
On the Kona point, whilst I get it’s iconic, the course profile is pretty non descript… the thing that makes Kona is the conditions (wind, heat, humidity), the landscape etc… No one ever talks about the profile apart from that small climb at the turnaround to Hawi.
It just won’t translate well to the virtual world.
What they are better off doing IMHO is taking parts of iconic races like solar hill, timanfaya and trying to put that into Watopia or another world like they did with the Alpe & Ventoux…
Someone posted this above but worth repeating - simple way to replicate real life courses is to grab someone’s GPX of an IRL course and convert it into a Custom Workout. Might look like Watopia, or AdZ but its the exact course that I am riding from IRL. I’ve trained for many gravel events and rides this way.
I’ve done this using best bike split - put the gpx file in, tell it the speed/power you want to average and it will spit out the watts and duration to ride the course - it will even convert it into a zwo file to use as a workout. Though I’m not sure how good it is reality.
Many years ago when first starting out using indoor training I used Kinomap and it would replicate the course profile - it was free software back then but I think it’s subscription now.
I’ve used this from WhatsonZwift but I used something else first couple of times - probably loads of choices these days.
My gravel rides often include a bit of Grade 1/2 singletrack and its only the higher frequency undulations that doesn’t translate very well (much the same as the mtb’ing track in Zwift), but the rest feels spot-on. For road type purposes, I would imagine it would be really accurate tthese days but
I grabbed this to demonstrate how you can tune it to help with realism/training goals …
