Sometimes a race has custom powerup locations, a banner in reverse might not give a powerup, or decorative archways are sometimes places to get powerups but not always.
Sometimes you can ascertain which gates give powerups on the map by sprint and KOM, but then something like the Watopia downtown gate on the Loop de Loop course does not show up on the elevation map.
My idea is mark gates that will give powerups in the game. My would be to stylize it as soigneurs giving hand ups. I’m not sure if these would be permanent or just for closed world races/events.
Another idea would be an on screen “X km to next powerup”.
Hi @D_Peterson_COALITION, welcome to Forums! I’m Francisco from Zwift Support.
That’s an interesting idea! PowerUps definitely add a strategic element to races, and I get why having clearer indicators for when and where you’ll get them could be useful.
As you mentioned, PowerUps are typically awarded at sprint, KOM, and lap banners, but there are exceptions—some event organizers set custom PowerUp locations, and certain banners don’t always grant them. If you haven’t already, you might find this article helpful for understanding how PowerUps work in Zwift: Zwift PowerUps Guide.
I really like your idea of an indicator showing how far until the next PowerUp opportunity—something like that could add more predictability without removing the tactical aspect of the game. Feedback is always welcome since we’re always looking for ways to improve the experience.
In the meantime, checking event details before a race can help, as some race organizers specify when PowerUps will be given. Hope that helps! I’ll submit your feedback for visibility as your opinion is important to us.
If Zwift were to do that, it would probably be implemented in the same location, size, and format of the “Close the Gap” message.
