I’ve been recording immersive video and audio cycling trips for a YouTube channel I’ve created called CYCLSCAPE.
They’re meant to be beautiful, relaxing, immersive long-form sound and image experiences, inspired by the walkabout videos that seem to be fairly popular. The audio is recorded binaurally with a custom helmet/lav rig I’ve designed, and the picture is 4K 60fps HDR.
The most common comment I’ve received from cycling friends in the past months is that they think it would be pretty cool to have live-action footage like this available for riding a Zwift route, so I’m posting here to see if that would in fact be interesting to more folks. Multiple videos for the same route could even be available - perhaps there could be different times of year, special events, etc.
Of course there would be some technical challenges. One that I see as somewhat minor is syncing up the speed of the video with the rider’s pace. This could probably be done by riding at an average pace, and have the video speed up and slow down with pitch-corrected audio. Since I am recording at 60fps, it should be quite easy to interpolate frames for paces that are much slower.
Another challenge that I foresee is that the recorded video essentially could not stop. This would mean any route that has a traffic light or stop sign (or anything that might break the pace) would be essentially impossible - but who wants to ride those anyway?
Just curious what interest there may be at this point.
