I’m having a new Horizon 7.8 AT treadmill delivered today.
I’m interested in getting Zwift setup, this will be new to me too. I have a couple hardware devices around my house I can dedicate.
An Apple TV HD 4th generation
or
Mac Mini M1
If either of these is a good idea, I have two monitors, a Dell 27" 1080P, or a Dell 38" widescreen 3840x1600.
Also, I’ll be needing a stand for the monitor, any ideas?
Thanks,
Tom
Both of your Apple devices can run Zwift. The Mac will give you more detailed graphics, higher resolution options, and higher frame rates. It also allows you to pair more Bluetooth devices (possibly not a problem if it’s just a treadmill and HRM). The Mac also offers access to game log files for troubleshooting. If you like using the remote to control the game that might be a point in favor of the Apple TV.
Thanks, So, if I use the Mac, I’ll have to keep the keyboard and mouse handy to use? While I’m on the treadmill will this be difficult, not necessary, ways around it? Sorry for my beginner questions, just trying to wrap my head around how this will work?
Some of the game controls are available in the Companion app which you can use on the treadmill (perhaps not easily while running but it’s possible). The ATV remote might make that a little easier in some contexts, if you’re willing to give up the better visuals that you get with the Mac.
Thanks, it looks like the Mac Mini is best for quality, much to think about?
Not really. A Windows PC with a gaming graphics card can be even better (depending on the specs) but since you own a Mac Mini I would go with that. I’ve run Zwift on an M1 MacBook Pro (2021) and it’s been very reliable.
I meant between the Mac Mini and Apple TV
I can’t think of a reason to use Apple TV unless you like interacting with the game via the remote control instead of the keyboard/mouse. Since you have both you could try both.
For the monitor stand maybe something like this…? VIVO Extra Tall TV Floor Stand for 13 to 50 inch Screens, LED OLED 4K Smart Flat, Curved Monitors, 178 cm Tall, Max VESA 200x200, Tall Pole for Treadmills and Ellipticals, Black, STAND-TV17: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo
In general look for extra tall stands.
Maybe try a bluetooth keyboard for your mac to be able to access it ‘remotely’ when you are on the treadmill. Just a cheap one in case of accidental damage…
Yes, I may try both
Thanks, it looks like VIVO has the stands
