I don’t race, but I’d like to train like a racer

I just got serious after a 21 year “parenting” hiatus, and I used to ride with pros who raced in the Core States (Philadelphia). When I ride with groups these days, they start racing after 3 minutes off the mark.

Is there a group in Zwift for training rides that assist with technique (via posts) without egos and “boasting” of stats getting in the way?

I rode today after a three weeks of for “life matters.”
My left knee was fatigued…cut my ride short today.

Thanks.

there’s something for everyone, no doubt about it. it’s easier to direct people to the right groups if they know exactly what it is they want. if you used to ride with pros, you prolly know a lot of it is done relatively easy with an effort or two thrown in there. professional athletes know what needs to be done and they’ll slot the work in wherever it makes sense to, but the bulk of pro training is really just spent trying to make the volume interesting… with that in mind, you basically want steady rides with a good group that can make the time pass properly

no shortage of those. Rhino have a nice 2hr weekend ride, “KISS at base” is a nice steady ride, DIRT run about 50 of them every day, 3R have some nice ones, JETT run great rides… all of these are usually unfenced, but the leader rides to the pace and people can do their efforts off the back if they have efforts to do. if the ride has “steady” in the title then you can’t really go wrong, since most ride leaders are really experienced.

Cyclists without egos, let’s see, where did I put that.

I would recommend some of the JETT rides, everyone I’ve seen on those is well mannered and welcoming.

If you previously rode with pro riders then I guess you’ll know the training regimes needed and what to do and the right time so it’s a matter of just working out your plan and doing it. Some of the group rides in Zwift won’t help you much with that - it’s just a matter of doing what it takes to be in your zone (music going, audiobook, whatever) and get the ride done.

I also used to train with pro riders and that was typically what they did on the trainer - and it was never Zwift, just intervals on a specific trainer software for 2 hours or something like that with music going.

I think workouts/intervals are more useful than just riding around in groups for hours.

For what it’s worth I’m not involved with any of the teams or group rides so I can’t really say too much about any of them.

You might enjoy the Ascenders Team Spin & Sprint group rides operated by @Patrick_AsC-Primarch

It’s a coached group ride where people practice sprints and then regroup. If you don’t want to do all the sprints you can just cruise with the ride leader. There are several different pace groups available. Tuesdays at 9:05AM US Eastern Time.

I also enjoy the BMTR rides like Short Adventure (Mon/Weds/Fri/Sun) and the BMTR Fundo (Sat).

Check out the Zwift Insider pieces on most popular group rides for more options.

Thank you @Paul_Southworth for the referral.

I am not some certified cycling coach or anything like that. However, I made use of my years of experience leading rides and training methods that I tested to lead Tuesday Spin & Sprint for D.

My aim is to help new riders, novices and aspiring racers with no background get some form of structured build up through sprint laps. This will enable them to gradually gain confidence in strength, endurance, gear mangement through the uneven nature of Richmond Fan Flats.

So if you thinik our ride is for you then come in every Tuesdays 9am ET or 1305 UTC for C, D and E levels of training/rides.

The group is expected to be training with one another, not against one another
