Just raced a rider with ZRS score of 982. They were using a handcycle in a zRace and win almost every race.
Not surprisingly considering that effectively have a burrito power up activated 100% of the time.
Can you please prevent this from entering zRaces in the same way that the TT is not allowed.
Yes, but with 5wkg 20 min power they can sit at the back all day long. And then drop everyone whenever they want.
Road bikes get zero draft from a hand cycle.
But, thats a good idea.
I didn’t realise at the time I was getting no draft. I just wondered why it was so hard to keep up with and why it was gapping us so easily.
It would probably end up being a legal issue if ZRace banned hand-cycles, and a legit hand-cyclist was racing. Sadly, like many other features of Zwift, there will be some who will use it as a loophole.
On top of that, they break up group drafting due to requiring more physical space; meaning they break up a blob and make them less efficient since fewer can draft each other (forces more users into the wind).
Handcycle is MEGA heavy though; this just sounds like a classic example of why top [public] racing in Zwift is so poor.
Folks get burned out by cheaters who experience zero consequences, we have less options in general, etc.
NAL but I’d be amazed if someone could craft up the idea of “being prevented from entering a road bike race on a digital interpretation of a handcycle in a video game” as a legal issue.
I have been in a WTRL TTT race and one of our riders got glitched with the handcycle, but they were actually on a TTT bike. It was brutal for drafting or trying to keep a line,.. the thing is like 12ft long and riders were getting pushed left and right, and there was a drafting gap created wherever their position was.
It is definitely damn fast downhill - I have used it on Alpe du Zwift when I’m in a hurry to finish the lap, switch from Aethos to handcycle at the top and fly downhill.
I had never thought of it being used in races, though did see one yesterday in the Constance robopacer group. It didn’t really affect the way the group moved however. If drafting was more difficult I would have noticed it - I was only just hanging on to the group. The being pushed left and right was the same as normal with normal riders (on standard bikes) coming along from behind and pushing others out of the way.
I think it has been asked for many times that this behaviour shouldn’t exist. The overtaking riders should be forced to go out of the draft and into the wind.
It was pretty fast on the flat too. Half draft and small climbs isn’t an issue for this rider as they can do 399w (5.8wkg) for 20 mins.
This power and depriving everyone else of draft benefit pretty much guarantees them podium every race.
while annoying as it is my best advice right now would be stay away from zracing series. it’s’ always been a bit smashfest especially for new riders and those with crazy power.
Best to do series or private events will get a better standard of racing where organisers might DQ is a start. The obvious answer would be zwift do further verification but i don’t think they are anywhere near resourced to do that for community races
