Garmin Forerunner 45 no longer recognized by Zwift

I use my watch for various activities and it works fine with the Garmin apps etc but last week Zwift no longer recognises the watch at all so cannnot conect via Bluetooth which I have to use as ANT+ is incompatible with my Zwiftclick devices. I have asked Garmin support and am awaiting their answer. Others suggest it is because of the new Secure connections requirement but Garmin watches work in open mode to allow a broad range of connections to fitness equipments. Any thoughts? I use a PC on Win 10 and also tried it on my laptop but simply nothing to connect to after waiting many minutes for Zwift to find it.

I’d love to hear what you learn from Garmin when they get back to you. There’s been an increasing number of reports like this lately (not just with Garmin devices - Polar as well).

If you have ANT+ support you can pair a HRM via ANT+ and then select the trainer and other controls to pair via Bluetooth, but that’s pretty annoying since you’ll likely need to go through that process every time you connect your devices.

I will provide an update once received but might try the Ant+ tomorrow to see if I can just connect the watch with everything else on Bluetooth. Thanks for the suggestion.

I use the same watch but I stopped connecting it for every ride. I found out that you can link your Garmin account to Zwift, as well as a few others, Wahoo, Training Peaks, Adidas etc & so now I just hop on & don’t need to do anything. All the information goes directly to whoever you link with. You can see a few of the apps available when you finish your ride, click menu, then click on to the next page & they are there. There’s also a full list on the Zwift online pages. Might help, might not.

I am afraid it was a school boy error on my part. Using the Zwift click means pairing now through Bluetooth but Zwift was telling me that my Garmin software (Express) was interferring with Ant+ so I deleted it. This was when the watch stopped showing HR when riding but I didn’t realise why at the time. Reinstalling Garmin Express and setting up my Ant+ dongle again and my watch instantly reconnected and all works perfectly. Yes I did know about linking with Garmin so I can see my stats in Strava for example which I use already for my outdoor rides but I needed HR on screen in game and now I do but thanks for the message.

See my answer below as I solved this myself by simply returning everything back to where it was before. Garmin sent me a link if it helps serch for this on the Garmin website - Garmin Connect Data Is Not Syncing Over to My Third-Party App - Doesn’t seem to accept weblinks on here.

No problem. I just use a coospo HRM for the HR so I don’t have to do anything with the watch now, much easier.
