I didn’t see this posted up yet. It’s a 45-minute interview with Eric Min, with DC Rainmaker asking the questions.
There is also a second interview with Ray and Des covering some slightly different topics worth a listen.
If he does read this… Give up on Boost mode Eric. It never worked & was a waste of time & resource.
I just got around to finishing watching this video. I can’t believe that Boost mode is Eric’s favourite feature of Zwift and he wants to bring it back
might as well just turn it into mario kart or road rash and be done with it, full on gameification rather than a platform for training
It really explains a lot about why resources are wasted on crap like flame trails while core functionality that should be part of any training app is ignored.
I thought the fire socks were a fun addition, it’s probably the only level unlock item I actually was interested in unlocking at all.
That said, I do agree with the base sentiment that there are so many things Zwift could do that would improve people’s ability to get stronger on the bike where it does seem a lot more time is put into basic cosmetic items and flashy stuff that won’t improve core gameplay. Most races/events, features, and challenges seem to be getting shorter, and cater more to folks who simply just need to be motivated to get on the bike and ride a bit rather than folks that are serious about improving from an already reasonable level.
I have to agree with this sentiment.
In another topic people are asking for gear display to be available for Kickr Bike, this is surely a no brainer inclusion given it is available for other kinds of smart bikes.
In Fulgaz this feature works fine with kickr bike.
Aside from that, less window dressing items and more new roads and existing world expansions will make Zwift a less repetitive and more enjoyable place. When it’s the same old roads again and again, it doesn’t motivate people to use them.
Yesterday I could have done Zwift but not motivated and nothing interesting to do. So I went out to the local field with footballs and my boots and did kicking practice instead.
On a positive note, Eric did also say in the same interview (right at the end) that Zwift would be delivering some of the functionality that users have been asking for - though he didn’t say what.
Boost mode was terrible and restricting it to only Crit city made it worse.
But the worst part of it was zwift categories in that all the sandbaggers were not pushed so they saved up their boost until the end and then crushed it even more than normal.
I wonder if we have had a balanced field in a race how boost mode might differ if it would break up the race a bit and allow for more attacks. I’d still put it way down the list on things to do get the core of the game sorted then can start thinking about these gamified side projects.
what happened the rush races in crit city? they seemed to have gone the same way as boost mode
I was hoping that by now, Zwift have dialed down gamification and pump-up functionality and training tolls, but I guess Zwift reflects his geeky nature
