This question interests me a lot as I’m sure a lot of others too. Any response from ZWIFT or ELITE? Will we need use a separate app (ELITE Training) to calibrate our ELITE trainers when using ZWIFT?
Zwift has always strongly recommended that you use the trainer manufacturer’s app to calibrate your trainer. That icon to do it in Zwift is only a fallback.
The calibration data is always stored on your trainer, and not in Zwift itself (even if you calibrate via Zwift).
The app to calibrate Elite trainers is Elite’s MyETraining.
OK. Thanks!
Did you fix the random drop resistance issue.
I have exactly same setup and have the same issue
My resistance just disappears randomly with virtual shifting. And I have the 10hz option on
Can anyone confirm if Elite Justo 2 supports virtual shifting over wifi (direct connect)?
In the setup using AppleTV 4K, Justo 2 (power, cadence, resistance) via wifi and the rest (play controllers, HRM) via BT via Companion app, virtual shifting is NOT enabled no matter what. Power/cadence works fine.
To enable virtual shifting I have to switch Justo 2 to BT via Companion, then it’s enabled without any issues.
Is this Zwift issue or Elite firmware issue? Thanks!
I used the Front 42T/Cog 14T combination with JUSTO at first, but step was heavier than when I used DIRETO XR. Also, when returning from coffee stop, it became abnormally heavy about two seconds after starting to step.
I replaced the front with 36T single gear, and it improved somewhat. For now, I’m going to replace Cog’s 14T gear with Shimano’s 16~17T gear.
I thought it had to be 14T even if I was using regular cassette, but when I asked support, it just changes the overall deceleration ratio, so any combination would work.
I haven’t received my Cog/Shift yet, but I’m having issues on my Elite Avanti after the virtual shifting firmware update. I get random bluetooth dropouts for about 5 seconds, usually in the first 5-10 minutes of Zwifting.
I have also noticed the abnormally heavy resistance that takes a couple of seconds to go away. Ex when joining an event/race, when I’m dropped in the pen the resistance spikes.
I also have the Rizer and Aria/fan.
I tried a ride with the Aria unplugged but still got the dropouts.
Haven’t tried with the Rizer unplugged yet.
I wonder if working on improving Bluetooth performance would help. What is the device you are running Zwift on?
Have you tried connecting your Avanti via wifi? Or it doesn’t work for you either? (see my question above for more details)
I have dropouts on both Apple TV and MacBook Air, and never had a bluetooth problem before this firmware update. If it was a bluetooth performance issue I suspect that I would get dropouts throughout my rides but it’s always at the start (around 5 min mark) or first half.
I don’t think the wifi has ever worked. The option comes up in Zwift pairing screen, but when I choose the wifi-option the power is not in sync with whats going on in Zwift.
Well the firmware update is a change, and it’s one you probably intend to keep for now, so it really helps to have more pairing options to try. Pairing via Companion would be another way to experiment with a different Bluetooth adapter, but Bluetooth dongles are a very inexpensive way to experiment with it on the Mac. I would get one with the Broadcom BCM 20702 chipset and put it on a 2m extension cable. It is reasonable to fear that this might be a waste of money, but not a lot of money.
I have an old/original Direto and “upgraded” to virtual shifting and a Zwift cog recently. I’ll be moving back to a cassette and real shifting soon as the user experience with virtual shifting on this trainer is horrible. The undershoot when down-shifting and overshoot when up-shifting are just horrible, so much so that I actually try to avoid shifting. For racing it’d be even worse I think. It’s nice and quiet, but otherwise a downgrade, not an upgrade.
With undershoot and overshoot, do you mean that for a brief second it gets easier when shifting to a harder gear and harder when shifting to an easier gear? Opposite of whats expected?
When changing to an easier gear, it gets much easier for 1-2 seconds before settling down, the result being you have to up your cadence to maintain a steady power.
When changing to a harder gear, it gets much harder for 1-2 seconds before settling down. I find this really unpleasant if you’re riding at threshold or above.
My cog is now off my trainer, ready to be sold. I thought virtual shifting was going to be amazing, but it’s anything but with a Direto.
I installed the new firmware (v89, issued in the last days) on my Direto XR, and it seems to react very differently…
Ciao a tutti,
Does anyone have experience with virtual shifting with Elite Avanti?
I updated the trainer and installed the Zwift cog.
I configured the controllers on Companion and connected the trainer via Bluetooth, but virtual shifting does not work. Zwift displays a message saying that my trainer does not support virtual shifting.
Can anyone help me?
Grazie
I have the same experience as Mike described above. Virtual shifting on Avanti is not a very good experience.
The message you get is typical when something is not paired via bluetooth etc. Check this thread or do a quick search.
Have you had a chance to try the recent Direto XR firmware update v89, to see if it helps with any of this? I haven’t seen any information on what’s changed, I’m just wondering if they’ve tweaked virtual shifting at all.
No, I haven’t looped back to v89. Trying to load their forums to check for the v89 changelog and that site is excruciatingly slow. Once loaded….. I still can’t find any information on it. ![]()
There will only be so much that can be done in firmware. It’d be good to see their virtual gear range tweaked to match the experience of other trainers with virtual shifting, even if it was only to widen the gears that work in 0% SIM gradient to stop the requirement of chasing resistance on undulating SIM terrain.
Related: There’s not a lot of mention of their new Rivo trainer, anywhere.
Hi Shane, have you got any contacts at Elite you can maybe prod to improve VS?
I got a Justo in summer and used it for ZRL points race yesterday (first race with it). Winding up for the sprints through the virtual gears (with over kicks in resistance) was hard. I have an OK pedal stroke (can spin up to 130-140rpm efficiently), which helps but it would be great to have a better feel.
The resistance spike at the beginning of each ride is annoying. I understand there needs to occasionally be some “calibration” but such information should be stored.
I need to play with the range settings too. At the moment there’s hardly any difference in gears 1-10 but 15-16-17 already have big jumps. Not sure I’ve ever hit gear 18.
