Cycling Level 100, XP, Drops, and Streaks [December 2023]

Why not just credit existing riders with the new level based on their current XP? They have done the work so should get the same credit as a new rider would.

Assuming I have understood correctly, which isn’t a given, 20% discount on leveling up looks mean considering the new XP requirements can be a third to a half of what they used to be. Double XP for those who reached Level 50 seems better, but still not great.

It also looks like the max achievement of Level 100 requires less XP than the previous highest achievement at Level 60. This doesn’t really help the long term riders who will still have little left to achieve once they get there.

Can one disable this screen from automatically popping up after every ride in preferences? Today I did multiple rides, and saw it after each one which seemed like too much and more importantly slowed down my transition from one ride to the next.

Edit: Perhaps this screen could only pop up when you exit Zwift for the session instead when you end an individual ride?

I’m taking all your xp and drops, deal with it!

Wow. This must have taken a lot of planning and some interesting number crunching. Looking forward to trying it out when it rolls over here…

Level 60 rider with c5million xp before update. 3 chevrons but only earning 20xp per km …… should be 40xp

Ticket going to be submitted

I just want to be able to sort my Garage… that’s all. I can not see how this is so hard guys

That isn’t how it works.

you earn XP at the correct rate but the gaps between levels are 20% shorter for you. so if the gap between level X and level Y is 5,000 you’ll level up after 4,000

they won’t go away don’t worry.

but why would you be mad at losing drops if you clearly never spend them?

They could have easily done that, yes. But then people would miss out on the "fun* of seeing themselves gradually level up and unlock new stuff. Zwift have decided to parcel out that fun gradually rather than in one hit.

What you refer to is the Level up discount. Where the amount of XP required to level up is discounted. There is an additional level acceleration in the form of double XP. My screen shows 20XP for each KM i ride. However if I go to the menu and check my XP movement I am actually gettting 40XP per km.

ah okay, i had missed that point.

same for me in that case - mine is only showing the usual amount of XP per mile.

So “new to zwift riders” are going to get to level 100 faster as they would have been getting to level 60 in the old XP calculation?

yes - fewer XP needed to get to 100 than was needed for 60 plus the streak bonuses and stuff

Not sure I’m getting special treatment.

I’ve been level 60 for over a year and at 1,000,411 XP which is enough to get to the new level 100 (591,000) nearly twice. But I’m making my way through the levels like everyone else albeit with some acceleration. Newer zwifters only need to accrue half the XP I have to get to 40 levels higher than me.

Due to having been stuck at level 60 for ever the levels have become pretty unimportant to me but I suppose it’ll be nice to get some new tat in the garage

At least it been addressed is way easier for newer zwifters to level up now.

Help me understand this – I’m level 42 at the moment. By my calculations, I have about 340000 XP and the new level 42 is 118500 so I have 221500 XP ‘banked’. That should ride out all the way to level 100, theoretically (?) because level 100 is 591000 – 118500 = 472500 XP needed from new level 42. 20% is 94500 XP which is what will be used from the bank.

So I’m getting shafted because I can only utilize less than half of my banked XP. I won’t be eligible for double XP ever because I’m not currently 50+, so this presents a scenario where the level 50-60 Zwifters are getting much more favorable treatment than the 30-40s which will now take much much longer to reach max level and have nothing to show for it. That 20% discount at the higher levels is a drop in the ocean when I know now that a third of all the XP I have ever accumulated will never be used - 127k XP.

Explain how this is a good thing.

You will accelerate through the levels 20% quicker than you would up until your new level matches where you should be on the new scale.

much longer? i have so far ridden 75,000 miles to get to level 60. How many will you have ridden to get to 60 when you get there? Not sure us level 60s are getting that great a deal

I’m not sure you follow the math. The 20% discount will drag all the way to level 100 because my banked XP is significantly greater than the discount available from 42-100.

The problem lies in that I have 340000 XP now. I will utilize 118500 XP to start me at level 42 today. I will utilize 94500 XP in the run up to level 100. That still leaves 127000 XP sitting in the bank, never to be used.

I’ve read the extremely helpful Zwift Insider note on XP and Level acceleration within 1.54. This answered all my questions bar one I’m musing - my Zwift has not yet updated to 1.54 from 1.53. The example shows a Level 20 Zwifter that has XP of 70,000, exactly Level 20’s entry XP. My question is what happens to any excess over, say in this example, 70,000 XP, say this same Zwifter currently has 75,000 XP (which would mean they’re still working under the existing 1.53 basis towards Level 21 (which requires under the 1.53 basis a further 8,000 XP, of which only 5,000 XP has been earned, (i.e. towards the next Level entry level of 78,000 XP.) Most, if not all, Zwifters will have XP sitting between the low and high XP Level Limits.

What do you what to use it for?

I have millions of banked xps

Why not have a garage sale on Zwift for old bikes and hats etc to sell to those who don’t have much
sell for at half-price

Great garage sale like real-life

Also, use xp points as a discount to buy things from the Zwift shop
