Cycling Level 100, XP, Drops, and Streaks [December 2023]

We calculate your total XP at the end of the ride and double it if you are getting bonus XP (Three Chevrons) or keep it as is if you are not (two Chevrons). So that is why you see the same banner XP like everyone else, but see a bigger reduction during the Streak screen if you have the three chevrons.

Thank you so much for clarification, I really appreciate it. :+1:

Personally I don’t mind what kind of level systems Zwift have, all versions are fine by me. I just ride to keep myself in shape, I don’t Zwift because of level and level unlocks. For now I have all I need to train with Zwift.

Good to hear there’s something special in the list of unlocks. Is it … a Heart Rate Helm?

Looking forward to finding out what it is.

It would help to make this clearer in the UI so people don’t have to peruse forum posts to learn about it. There’s no reason people would notice or understand the difference between two and three chevrons - that distinction has no inherent meaning.

Unless you are @GPLama and get sued over using Chevrons on a T shirt design

Yeah, I don’t think I personally would have understood the leveling speed changes without following these posts. The UI isn’t super clear on it from what I can tell.

After the initial moaning, it seems clear to me that Zwift had indeed painted themselves into a corner where further expansion of the zwift levels would be difficult.

Assuming a relatively eager zwifter riding an average 30km/h, 250 hours per year collecting 25xp per kilometer (including bonuses) would basically need 3 years to earn the good bikes and to get the Fire Socks. After this however, there would be no more than 3-4 levels per year. So a quite stagnant progress bar.

With the new scale, they are pleasing new impatient zwifters letting them earn the whole current stock of bikes and wheels in a year, including the Fire Socks. For those that keeps riding beyond this, the slope of the new scale allows around 12-15 new levels per year. Whether these hard core zwifters cares too much about socks and jerseys beyond this point is questionable, but at least they will see the level climbing with about one level per month giving some indication of progress.

I can understand this might be more motivating for the new zwifters and a bit more rewarding even for the old timers that pretends they don’t care.

Having done only two rides in the new scheme, I’m already 50% to level 61, so don’t think this transition will take too much time.

I have double the amount of XP and also go fast track to lvl 98 :person_shrugging:

I’m at level 60 for ages and have ridden almost 50.000km and now need to ride another 7.000km for level 100 while newbies “only” need 25.000 for level 100.
Something is really off here !

I’m not getting the +40 xp/km as described, just the normal +20/km. I’m level 60 for 13 months, orange bar moves up now. I see the triple chevron and wheel stand bike icon on the xp trend line. Just not earning 40 xp/km.
Anyone else?

you don’t get double XP per km, it will only show in the math when you finish a ride and the distance/XP needed to reach the next level will be reduced by double as seen on your Streak screenshot… 3480 XP until next level… if you do another short ride of 5km, that number will reduce by 200 XP even though you only earned 100 XP for the 5km. Does that make sense?

Thank you @Aoi_Niigaki for figuring that out

I’m seeing all currently at lvl 60 are going fast track to lvl 98 no matter how many XP

What I found when riding:

  • HUD will show +20XP as you pass each km
  • The progress bar still crawls along as if it’s at 20XP increments (hard to tell) edit my first time under new levelling this seemed to be the case, on my 2nd ride it seemed to be moving at the accelerated XP
  • The rider score on the pause screen will increase by 20XP
  • The “Until Next Level” count will decrease by 40XP (this is the key one to follow)
  • The streak screen will show the correct amount to the next level including any streak bonuses (which are also doubled)
  • If you end the ride and then restart the progress bar shown when riding will have jumped ahead to the correct position.

this was covered earlier on in the thread - i think it says 98 but as you get there you will be boosted all the way to 100 if you have the XP to warrant it.

something about it displaying it like this to stop it continuing to boost past 100 or something.

Thanks Chris, I read most of the comments but missed that.
Can you tell what happens with the “not used” XP ?
There’s people with over 3 million XP good for lvl 600 or so :astonished::crazy_face:

same as it was when there were 60 levels - it’ll sit there doing nothing again!

nothing is being lost or taken away so your total will continue to build, when you get to 100 you will just go round and round “getting” level 100 again. so the orange slider will keep moving but you’ll just repeatedly get to level 100.

Gotcha, I would have preferred a higher level than 100 to make a clear distinction and reward for the many hours put in. But I guess it’s hard to make everyone happy .

I’ve said previously i’d like it that once you get to 100 you start back at 1 again and work your way through all the levels but you have a counter of how many 100s you have hit.

so first time round you are level 0-26 or whatever, second time you’d be 1-26 and so on.

no need to introduce new levels, no mad confusion about maths or whatever to work out how quickly you go through the levels.

could immediately put everyone on their correct level based on their XP and everyone would still be levelling up. Happy days!

But that is probably far too simple for Zwift

after having my XP nerf’d back to 750,000 from over a million, sort of happy with this version, sort of… (well not unhappy, it is what it is, I don’t lose my XP this time around)
think the ceiling is too low, but there is scope to grow the levels easier, I hope !

endless bonus drops at level 100, sounds good if you’re scrapping for drops to get the best kit, but there comes a threshold, an event horizon, where you go from not enough drops to 10s of millions of drops just accumulating with no where to go ! (50+mil in my case)

edit: 1.6mil XP

It’s definitely something that could work as I know for a fact many riders pride on their level.
Ah well it’s all good.
Tomorrow is my first ride in 1.54 (SZR 100km at 8am CET) and we’ll see how it pans out.
Be well
